BATH-TUB HEAD-REST.

To all w/wm'it may concern:

Be it known that I, AnNoLD ZUKon, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bath-Tub Head-Rests, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to head rests, and more particularly to an attach ment for bathtubs, whereby the head of the bather is supported in a comfortable position.

One of the objects of the invention is to provide a simple and efiicient device of this character, the posit-ion of which upon the bath-tub may be easily changed to suit the requirements.

With these and other objects in view, which will more fully appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the combination, arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that many changes may be made in the size and proportion of the several parts and minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

One of the many possible embodiments of the invention is illustrated in the accompaying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a transverse sect-ion taken through a bath'tub with the invent-ion applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a side elevation, partly in section, of one of the ends of the bath-tub showing the attachment in elevation; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the attachment; Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 44 of Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 is afront elevation of the base frame of the attachment with its supporting means.

In the drawings, the numeral 6 indicates a bath-tub of any suitable or preferred construction, its end 7, against which the head normally rests, being curved in the usual manner.

The attachment comprises a base frame 8, consisting of two vertical bars 9, 9, which are provided with longitudinal holes 10 extending therethrough, said vertical bars being connected by substantially horizontal Specification of Letters Patent.

bars 11, 11, which are curved, as clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, and conform to the curvature of the inner face of the end 7 of the bath-tub. The holes 10, 10 are, preferably, cylindrical and have slidably arranged therein supporting rods 12, 12, the upper ends of which are shaped to form hooks 13, 13, which are adapted to lie over the rim 14 of the bath-tub. Clamping bolts 15, 15 extend through the eye-shaped ends 16 of the hooks, the heads 17 of said bolts bearing against the rim of said bathtub, and their outer screw-threaded ends 18 meshing with wing-nuts 19, which abut against the eye-shaped ends 16 of the hooks. By means of this construction, the supporting rods 12, and the frame 8 carried thereby, may be shifted to and held in the desired position upon the rim of the bath-tub. The lower ends of the supporting rods 12 are screw threaded, as shown at 20, said screw threaded portions meshing with wing nuts 21, which bear against the lower faces of the Nertical bars 9, 9, and serve to permit of a lowering or raising of the base frame 8 of the attachment.

The head rest proper comprises a block 22 of cork or similar material which is not affected by water, the inner face 23 of said block being concave to conform to the head of the bather. This head block is held in a curved tray 24, the block projecting beyond the edge of the tray, as clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings. The bottom 24 of the tray is curved, rests against the frame 8, and is held thereon by a clamping frame 25, having a flange 26 in engagement with the tray, and a flange 27 which bears against the horizontal bars 11 of the frame 8 and against cars 28, 28, which latter are made integral with the vertical bars 9 of the base frame. Rivets 29, 29 pass through the flange 27 of the clamping frame 25 and through the horizontal bars 11 and the ears 28. By means of these rivets or similar fastening means the clamping frame is fiX- edly attached to the base frame, holding thereby the tray 24 and the head block 22 in proper position thereon.

The device is secured over the rim of the bath-tub: in any suitable place, the base frame 8 with the parts carried thereby raised or lowered to bring the head block 22 to the proper level so as to serve as a support for the head of the bather.

What I claim is In a device of the class described, the combination with a base frame having holes extending through the vertical bars thereof, of supporting rods extending through said holes, the upper ends of said rods being shaped in hook form and their lower ends which project beyond the lower face of said frame being screw threaded, nuts meshing with the screw threaded portions of said rods resting against the lower face of said base frame, a tray, a clamping frame in engagement with said tray attached to said base frame, and a head block in said tray projecting beyond the edges of said tray la and said clamping frame.
