Description

L. D. DAY.
SHAMPOO BOARD.
non FILED NOV- 5 APPLIC l6. 1,223,263. Pwented Apr. 17,1917.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS D. DAY, OF TULSA, OKLAHOMA, ASSIGNOB OF ONE-HALF T0 ALVIN E. HUIGHISON, OF TULSA, OKLAHOMTA.
SHAMPOO-BOARD.
Application filed November 6, 1916. Serial No 129,883.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEwIs D. DAY, a citizen of the United States, a resident of Tulsa, in the county of Tulsa and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shampoo-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates more particularly to that class of shampoo boards which are adapted to be utilized by barbers and to be applied to the conventional chair used in this class of work, in such a manner that same can be readily attached and detached, and when attached to be held firmly and securely in position.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device of this character of such construction as to provide a comfortable rest for the customer being treated, eliminating all rough or sharp edges and providing an oval symmetrical rest element.
Still another object is to construct the supporting element in such a manner as to permit the body of the device being swung away from the patron, and downward to form a support for the hair during treatment.
Reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the specification and wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which Figure l is a longitudinal sectionalview of the shampoo board in operative position on the back of a barbers chair.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same detached from its support.
Fig. 3 is a crosssectional View thereof showing the connection between the board and its supporting post, and,
Fi 4: is a perspective View of the rod associated with the board.
Reference numeral 1 indicates the pan which is provided with side walls 2, 3 and end wall 4; which also forms the neck rest as will more clearly hereinafter appear. This pan isconstructed of a suitable material which will not readily oxidize. For attaching the device to a chair preparatory to use an adjustable bracket 5 is provided. This bracket is hinged in position to perknit the pan to swing longitudinally with relation thereto. The pin 6 which passes through and holds the bracket hinge also passes through the downwardly projecting Patented Apr. 17, 1917.
eye 7. This eye 7 is an integral part of the longitudinal reinforcing strip 8 which is held in the corrugation 9 formed in the base material of the pan bottom. This base material is preferably in the form of sheet iron to give strength thereto. This construction is clrarly shown in Fig. 1.
The end wall 4 which as previously stated forms the sup; ort for the neck of the patron is constructed of any suitable sheet metal such as coppi r. and the edges LIG rounded to form a smooth comfortably fiwting surface.
For use in 0: see where there is no running water a hook is formed on the lower extremity of the pan and upon this hook 10 a bucket or other suitable receptacle may be hung to receive the waste water. When this arrangement is necessary an additional bracket or sup aort is utilized. This bracket is constructed of telescoping sections 11, 12 and the upper end of section 12 is provided with forked projections let which straddle the projecting eye 15 of the reinforcing rod 8,and is retaini id thereon by means of bo1t15.
In that form shown in Fig. 1, the main supporting br: cket is shown in the form of two downwar :lly extending rods. These rods are adapzed to seat in corresponding sockets which are found in certain types of This support is concave chairs upon WTllCh it may be desired to use the present in ention.
The use of the device is as follows :The modern conventional barbers chair is provided with a:1 adjustable and removable head rest. W1en it is desired to utilize the present invent .on this head rest is removed and the support or bracket 5 is adjusted in position. As 1: reviously stated when running water is not available a bucket is arranged on the hook 10 and the additional support is properly adjusted to support this additional load. After the shampoo operation is complete the board can be allowed to swing on its hinged support downwardly and it will be evident then when in this position it will support the be r and protect the chair.
It will be clearly obvious to one skilled in the art that by the construction shown and by means of the various attachments the present invent: on can be used in connection with any of the conventional chairs and with or without th: use of running water. It will also be see 1 that various changes in construction can be made and in the arrangements of parts Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim as new and useful and -de-' sire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A shampoo .board adapted for pivotal adjustment at one of its ends to a barber chair said board including a pan or headrest at one 'end thereof a hollow longitudinal rib on the bottom of the pen, a reinforcing rod for said hollow rib, perforated lugs carried by said rod and projecting ou-twardfly of the rib, one of said [lugs forming part of the means whereby the board is pivotally attached to the chair and a brace rod pivotallgy connected to the other lug and adapted {to engage a portion ofthe chair for holding the pan inoperative position.
- 2. A shampoo board adapted for pivotal attachment to a barber chair said board including a pan, a head rest at one end thereof, the central longitudinal portion of the bottom of the pan being of increased crosssectional area and having a longitudinal opening therein closed at one end, the rod positioned in said opening and having one end thereof engaging the closed end. Wall the opening, extensible means carried by the rod adapted to engage a portion of the chair, whereby the pan is held in substantially horizontal position, a hook carried by the free sweeping end of the pa n, and .a drain bucket suspended from said hook.
