To all whom it may concern: p Be it known that l, FRANK lt. Waren, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful lm rovements in Memorandum Attachments tor elephones of which the followin is a specification.
My invention has or its ob'ect to provide a telephone with amemoran um or scratch pad; and to such end it consists oi the particular construction and arrangement oi the attachment adapted for the reception of a detachable tablet or scratch-pad for the said purplose.
rl` e nature and characteristic features of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accom anying drawings, forming part hereof, in W `ch- Figure l is a view in elevation oi an ordilnary desk-telephone, showinvI the receiver and transmitter thereoi` an a tablet or scratch-pad attachment embodyin main features of my invention in app ication thereto. Fig. 2 is a transverse section throu h-the telephone-standard on the line a x of ig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view in elevation at a right angle to Flg. l of the lower portion of the telephone-standard with the attachment rof my invention' applied to the same and also with a tablet or scratch-pad detachably conn nected therewith. Fig. It is a top or plan view oi the detail arrangement of an attachment oi my invention tor detachably holding a pad thereon, and Fi 5 is a cross-sectional view on the line 'y y oi Fig. d.
Referring to the drawings, A. is an ordinary well-known type of desk-telephone provided with a receiver o and transmitter a.
B is the memorandum or scratch pad holder, consistin essentially, of an oblong wire or skeleton ame b, having two side eX- tensions or arms b and b2 bent or expanded centrall of their length, so as to form the means or embracing the standard a2 of the telephoneAfor supporting the holder in position from the same. These arms have coupled thereto a Itired link h3 at the end adjacent to the `holder proper, and at the opposite contracted ends of the arms b and t2 is mounted a link t, movable back and forth on the contracted threaded portions provided with ti htening-nuts b1 for detachably securin the older to the standard a. holder is rovided with two cross-strips b5 and b", fixe to the wire or skeleton trame ot the holder. These strips embrace the wire frame b by means of fingers or cli s t", struck up from the strips and which are ent around the wire frame t. The upper cross-strip t5 has struck u from the end portions two inturned clips 7 and bg, with which the tablet or scratch-pad CV detachably engages by being slid by its pasteboard support c through the clips, so as to hold the pad by means of thecross-strips b5 and t in a :dat position on the holder B 1n connection with the standard a? ot the telephone and with the leaves c of the pad free for use and removal from the pad C as re uired, as clearly illustrated in i s. 1,2, an 3 of the drawings.
aving thus described the nature and object ci my invention, what ll claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is
l. 'lhe combination with a tele hone, of a scratch-pad holder, consisting o a frame with an extension for engaging the standard of the telephone, said extension partially threaded and `provided-with a link, tightening means engaging the threaded portions oi sald extension and strips s anningsaid frame, one ci said strips provide with inturned clips with which the scratch-.pad is ada ted to engrage by being slid through the c ips of said ame for sup orting the pad on said holder.
2. The combination with a telephone, of a scratch-pad holder, consisting of a wire frame having two curved and contracted arms partially threaded, fixed and movable links mounted on said arms, tightening-nuts engagm ing the threaded portions ci said arms and strips spanning said wire frame, one of said strips provided with inturned clips with which the scratch-pad is adapted to engage bybeingl slid throu h the clips for supporting the pa on said ho der.
in testimony whereof l have hereunto set my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
