WASHINGTON.
To aZZ whom t may concern Be it known that I, AMos H. MATTI-IEW, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Colville, in the county of Stevens and State of Washington, have invented a new and lmproved Meat-Clamp, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel meat clamp adapted to be employed in connection with a table, for clamping a piece of meat for the proper holding of the same while being cut or trimmed.
The invention will be more particularly explained in the description following.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view, parts being broken away; Fig. 2 is an endelevation; Fig. 3 is a detail sectional elevation; and Fig. t is a view similar to Fig. 3, but showing the parts in a diierent adjustment.
In carrying out my invention the clamp is adapted to be secured to any table 10, here shown as having legs 11. A bar 12 is formed with a longitudinal slot 13, through which a guide stud 14C or the like passes and engages the table. A clamping stud 15 passes also through said slot and engages into the table. A flexible clamp band 16, preferably a clock spring or like spring band is connected at one end to an end of the bar 12, and is adapted to arch over the table surface, the band passing through a vertical slot 17 in the table to a connection with a winding drum 18, the shaft 19 of which has bearings in a hanger 20, and is provided with a handle 21 for turning the drum. The hanger 20 is secured to a rock sha-ft 22 having bearings in hangers 23 secured to the under side of the table, the shaft having a handle 24 to rock the same and thereby tilt the winding drum 20 and the spring band.
By the described construction, a piece of meat, such as a leg of mutton or the likev may be placed on the table beneath the arched surface of the band 1G. To adjust the size of the arch and cause it to conform approximately to the conformation of the Specication of Letters Patent.
Application led April 30, 1913.

surface of the meat, the bar 12 may be slid longitudinally, thereby drawing the band lengthwise and unwinding it from the drum 1S, to enlarge the arched portion; also by tilting the hanger 20 the spring band will be moved torsionally, whereby to dispose the arch at the desired angle to the table, as indicated in Fig. 4, whereupon the shaft 19 may be turned to wind the band on the drum, thus Contracting the arch and thereby firmly clamping the meat in position, so that it may be cut or trimmed with convenience and dispatch.
To hold the rock shaft 22 in a given position according to the desired angular adjustment of the hanger 20, the handle 211- carries a clamp screw 25, or the like, adapted to move in a slot 26 of a hanger 27 or other relatively xed part.
To hold the spring band under tension when wound up in clamped engagement with the meat, a ratchet 28 is provided on the shaft 19, adapted to be engaged by a pawl 29 on a bar 30 pivoted on the hanger 20. The hanger 20 is extended at each side of the drum, beyond the perimeter of the latter, as at 20a, to prevent displacement of the spring when the drum is tilted.
The described construction affords a practical means for carrying my invention into effect, and l would state in conclusion that l do not limit myself strictly to the rnechanical details herein illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent: g
1. A meat clamp, comprising a resilient flat band, means for securing one end of the band to a table, means for exerting a pull lengthwise on the band to give the same a clamping action, and means for torsionally adjusting the band.
2. The combination with a resilient clamp band, of means for securing one end of the band to a table, a winding drum to which the opposite end of the band is connected, and means for tilting the winding drum.
3. In a meat clamp, thecombination of a spring band,a bar having means to slidably against turning, and meansfor holding the secure it to a table, a drum connected with l In testimony whereof IV have signed my the opposite end of the band, a rook shaft, i neme t0 this specification in the presence o a hengel' secured to Jche rook shafge Windtwo subscribing Witnesses.
ing shaft on Jche drum having hearings in said hanger,V means for holding the drum 1Witnesses:
