PHONE ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 25. 1912 Patented Jan. 28, 1913.
//? Golly/1 UNITE TAT 1 OFFICE.
EDWARD McGOUGH, OF HAPAKONETA, OHIO.
PHONE ATTACHMENT.
Be it known that I, Eowano McGouoH,
a citizen of the United States, residing at W'apakoneta, in the county of Auglaize, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and use- .ful Improvements in Phone Attachments;
and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a phone attachment, the purpose of the invention being to provide a simple and improved device for su porting a telephone directory or other ata convenient for use when conversing by phoneand thus avoid the heretofore inconvenience of hunting for a tele-- phone director or such data'by reason of the usual displacement thereof from a position for convenient use.
Another and important object of the invention is to construct a rack or holder attachment embodying a receiving member for a telephone directory and a supporting means for said receiving member which also serves to retain the directory in an upright position when attached to a phone stand or the like and which also serves for holding the telephone wires of a desk phone so as to prevent the same from becoming entangled around the stand or base thereof to cause tipping of the stand and other. annoyances.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain other combinations and arrangements of parts as view of the attachment removed from the stand. I
To illustrate the use of my device, I have disclosed a telephone stand of ordinary design having a base portion 10, a standard 11, a transmitter 12 and a receiver 13 mounted upon the usual hook 14; while the circuit wires 15 are shown as leading to the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 25, 1912. Serial No. 698,175.

baseand from the base to the receiver respectively in the usual manner.
My improved attachment comprises a supporting member 16 constructed of a single' strip of resilient metal and bent intermediate of its ends to form an arcuate and relatively elongated loop 17 which is horizontally disposed while the free extremities 18 of the said strip outwardly of adjacent angularly bent portions 19 at the central inner side of the loop are formed with oppositely bowed or semi-circular portions 20 to conform to the shape of the stand portion 11. The adjacent extremities 1 8 are also formed with perforations 21 and 22 at the outer and inner sides of the bent portions 20 for receiving binding screws 23 for tightly clamping the supporting member 16 at any suitable height on the standard 11. Secured between the side portions of the loop 17 are a pair of vertical loops 24 the same being spaced apart slightly from the central portion of the loop 17 and extended above and below the same. The upper ends of the loops 24 are bent outwardly at right angles to form horizontal portions 25 and thus serve to engage the back and free edges of a directory 26 engaged within the loops 24 and 17 and portions 25 of the loop 17, the closed extremities 27 and 28 ret 'iing the said directory'in position and acting as guides in placing and removing the same while the lower connecting portions or closed ends 29 of the loops 24 engage the lower edge of the directory or other data to support the same whereby the upper parts thereof will project above the horizontal portions 25 for convenient use. The telephone wires 15 are also passed between the portions 18.0f the supporting member 16 before the latter is engaged on the standard and over the rear side of the loop 17 to the necessity of distributing extra copies. It will be further apparent that the device may be attached to all makes of phones and can be quickly attached and removed.
2. The combination with a telephonestand; of a directory and wire supporting member carried thereby, said member comprising a single section of metal bent intermediate of its ends to form a horizontal arcuate loop and having its free extremities'formed to clamp on the standard and a pair 'of vertical loops carried by said first named loop and having its upper ends bent outwardly in alinement with the extremities of the first named loop for the reception of r a directory therein and with the wires arranged over a portion of the horizontal loop.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses. Y EDWARD MCGOUGH. Witnesses:
