To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD FowLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cedargrove, in the county of Walker, in the State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the `following is a specification.
This invention relates to plows, and more particularly to disk plows, this application being a division of my copending application on a plow iiled August 17, 1903, Serial No. 169,777.
It has for one of its objects to provide a walking or hand disk plow which has a minimum n`umber of parts, which will be well balanced, and which will have no side draft.
Another object isto mount the plow-point in such .a relation to the revolving disk that the point will cut straight a portion of the land side and the bottom of the concave furrow made by the disk.
A still further object is to improve the means for mounting the plow-point on the standard.
Other objects and advantages will be described in the specification and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my plow. Fig. 2 is a side view. Fig. 3 is a top view with the beam broken away and the handles removed. Fig. 4 is a side view of the end of the standard withthe plowpoint, disk, and handles removed. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the removable bearing-blocks. Fig. 6 is a sectional view of the furrow cut by theI disk, and Fig. 7 is a sectional view of the furrow cut by the disk and plow-point combined and shows a front elevation of the disk with the relation of the plow-point thereto. Figs. 8, 9, and 10 are detail views of the plow-point.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicatesa gooseneck beam of I crosssection, the standard Q being integral therewith and having an integral rearwardly-extending foot 3 at its lower end struck from the standard and deflected to the vertical plane of the flanges 12 on the standard. The foot 3 is provided with horizontal bolt-openings 13, by which the plow-point and the landthe flange, so as to project in front of the lower end of the standard, and a bottom 5b, which is of a width equal to the width of the 'moldboard and of a length equal to the length of the iiange, so as to extend underneath the lower end of the standard. In the rear and forming a continuation of the plow-point is the landside 5, which bears against the standard and extends underneath the same like the plow-point.
Secured upon the land side of the standard is a disk-carrier 10, provided with a forwardly and outwardly extending bracket-arm having a journal-bearing 6 at its outer end. The journal-bearing 6 has removable bearing-blocks 7 therein and supports the axle or spindle of the disk 8 in such a manner that the disk is positioned on the inner side of the bracketarm in an oblique position with reference to the beam and also in a rearwardly and upwardly inclined position beneath the beam. The angle of the disk is, further, such that the center of the disk is in a line directly underneath the plow-beam and in a line directly in front of the standard. Owing to this position of the disk, the concave furrow made by it, while being in a line underneath the beam and in a line in advance of the standard, will have its greatest depth to the side of the standard opposite the land side, and as the plow-point is in the rear of the disk and on the land side of the standard 2 the plow-point will be disposed and cut directly in the rear of the cutting edge of the disk and below that portion of the cutting edge of the disk directly in front of it. The concave furrow, as seen in Figs. 6 and 7, will have aportion of its land side and a portion of its bottom cut flat, thereby providing a flat footway for the plowmfin. The plow-point andthe landside also act as a guide element and prevent the shifting of the plow. The plow-point is spaced laterally from the rear side of the disk, and its mold side 5, which is opposed to the disk, is inclined at an angle, which widens rearwardly and upwardly with reference to the disk to form acorresponding clearance-space between the point and the disk. The position of the bearing throws the rear edge of the disk on 'the side of the standard opposite that on which bearing is mounted, thereby causing the weight of the dirt turned to be counterbalanced by the weight of the bearing, thus obviating Side draft. Further, the draft or pull from the beam is communicated directly to the disk instead of through intermediate connections. Vhen the disk wears so that its cutting edge would be raised, the bolts 9 are removed and the disk-carrier 10 lowered until the openings in the same register with the openings 11 in the standard 2, one only being illustrated, and the bolts are then placed in position. The disk-carrier 10 is held against lateral movement by thc flanges 12 on the standard.
Various changes in form, proportion, and minor details may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a plow, the combination with the standard, of a revolving disk, a journal-bearing for the disk secured to and mounted on one side of the standard and disposed to hold the disk on an angle to the line of draft and the rear edge of the disk on the side of the standard opposite to that on which the journal-bearing i is mounted, and a' plow-point mounted in the rear of the disk and on the side of the standard upon which the journalbearing is mounted. l
2. In a plow, the combinationwith the standard, of a revolving disk, a journal-bearing for the disk secured to and mounted on one side of the standard and disposed to hold the disk on an angle to the line of draft and the rear edge of the disk on the side of the standard opposite to that on which the journal-bearing is mounted, and a plow-point carried by the standard on the side upon which the journalbearing is mounted and in the rear of the disk.
3. In a plow, the combination with a standard and a beam, extending forwardly in alinement with the standard, of a revolving disk secured tothe standard at an angle to the line of draft and in a position to cut a concave furrow in a line directly underneath the beam and directly in front of the standard but with the greatest depth of the furrow toone side of the standard, and a plow-point secured to the other or land side of the standard in the rear of f the disk and upon the land side of the furrow.
4. In a plow, the combination with a beam,v
a standard and a revolving disk, of a journalbearing for the disk secured to and mounted on one side of the standard and disposed to hold the disk on an angle to the line of draft and the rear edge of the disk on the side of the standard opposite to that on which the journalbearing is mounted, and a plow-point carried by the standard on the side on which the bearing is mounted and in the rear of the disk.
5. In a plow, the combination with a beam. of a revolving disk with its center directly beneath the beam and on an inclined axis at an angle to the line of draft so as to cut a furrow in a line directly underneathl the beam having its greatest depth to one side of the beam, and a plow-point cutting in the rear of the disk and on the other or land side of the furrow made by the disk.
6. In a plow, the combination with the beam and the standard, of afoot on the standard, a plow-point secured to and on the landside of the foot, a journal secured to the landside of the standard and providing an axis atan angle to the line of draft and in front of the standard, and a disk mounted on the journal and operating in front of the plow-point at a point in a vertical line underneath the beam and a horizontal line in front of the standard.
7. In a plow, the combination with the beam and the standard, adisk-bearing secured upon one side of the standard, a disk supported by said bearing in advance of the standard, with its axis extending slightly upwardly in front of the standard and at an angle to the line of draft, and with its rear edge on the side of the standard oppositethe bearing, and a plow-point secured upon that side of the standard upon which the bearing is secured and in the rear of the disk.
8. In ahand-plow, the combination with the beam and the standard made from a metallic beam of I cross-section, of a rearwardly-extending foot integral with the lower end of the standard and deflected to the vertical plane of the flanges on the land side of the standard, an attaching-plate secured to the standard on the land side thereof between the flanges thereon, a journal-bearing carried by the attaching-plata a revolving disk supported by the journalbearing with its axis extending slightly upwardly in front of the standard and at an angle to the line of draft, and with its rear edge on the side of the standard opposite the bearing, and a plow-point secured upon that side of the standard upon which the bearing is secured and in the rear of the disk.,
9. In a hand-plow, the combination with the beam and the standard made from a metallic beam of I cross-section, of a rearwardly-extending foot integral with the lower end of the standard and deflected to the vertical plane of the flanges on the land side of the standard, an attaching-plate secured to the standard on the land side thereof between the flanges thereon, a journal-bearing carried by the attaching-plate, removable bearing-blocks in the bearing, a revolving disk supported by the IOO IIO
journal -bearing with its axis extending slightly upwardly in front of the standard and at an angle to the line of draft, and with its rear edge on the side of the standard opposite the bearing, and a plow-point secured upon that side of the standard upon which the bearing is secured and in the rear of the disk.

In a plow, the combination of a standard of I cross-section, having its lower end fiattened and deiiected to the vertical plane of the iianges on one side of the standard, aplowpoint secured on this side of the standard and extending in front of the lower end of the same, a disk, and a journal-bearing for the disk adjustably secured between the flanges of the standard on the side on which the landside and the plow-point are secured.
' 11. A plow having a beam and standard, a
disk secured to the standard and having its cutting edge in advance of the standard and beneath the beam, and a point, also secured to the standard, in rear of the central cutting edge of the disk.
12. A plow having a beam and standard, a disk secured to the standard and having its cutting edge in advance of the standard and beneath the beam, and a point, also secured to the standard, in rear of and lower than a portion of the cutting edge of the disk.
13. A plow having a beam and standard, a disk secured to the standard and having its cutting edge in advance of the standard and beneath the beam, and a guide element, also secured to the standard, having a point, and lisgosed in rear of the cutting edge of the 14. disk secured to the standard and having its -f cutting edge in advance of the standard and beneath the beam, the disk being rearwardly and upwardly inclined and also disposed obliq uely with reference to the beam, and a guide element, also secured to the standard, having a landside and a point and disposed in rear of the cutting edge of the disk, the said point being spaced laterally from the rear side of the disk, and having its mold side, which is opposed to the disk, inclined at an angle which widens rearwardly and upwardly with reference to the disk to form a corresponding clearance-space between the point and the disk.
15. A plow having a beam and standard, a guide element at the lower end of the latter and having a landside and a point, a diskcarrier secured on the side of the standard corresponding to the landside and having a forwardly and outwardly extending bracketarm, and a disk having its axle carried by the said bracket-arm, said disk being on the inner side of said bracket-arm, and supported thereby in an oblique position with reference to the beam and also in a rearwardly and upwardly inclined position, beneath the beam, the point being disposed in rear of the cutting edge of the disk.
