Be it known that I, CORDEAN A. BOUGHT, a

citizen of the United States. residing at Lestershire, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Curtain and Shade Fixture, of which the following is a specification. The invention relates to curtain and shade fixtures.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of curtain and shade fixtures'and to provide a simple and comparat ively inexpensive fixture designed for supporting a curtain-pole and a shade-roller and capable of ready adjustment to obviate the necessity of trimming window-shades.

' Another object of the invention is to provide a fixture of this character adapted to enimprovements in v able a curtain-pole to be supported at a point beyond a window frame blocks to the wall.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts without securing hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details of construction within the scope of the claim may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a window provided with a curtain and shade fixture constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is .a vertical sectional view on the line 8 3 of Fig. 2.

The curtain fixture comprises a pair of brackets arranged at opposite sides of a window-frame 1, as clearly illustrated in Fig. l of the drawings, and adapted to support a curtain-pole and a shade-roller, as indicated in dotted lines at 2 and 3 in Fig. 3 of the drawings. Each of the brackets of the fixture com- 5 0 prises a fixed or stationary member 4 and an adjustable member 5. The fixed and adjustable members 4 and 5 are substantially L shaped and have inner transversely-disposed horizontal portions and outwardly-extending supporting-arms. The fixed or stationary member 4 consists of a bar or piece of metal bent at right angles between its ends to form the said transverse portion and the outwardlyextending pole-supporting arm 6. The trans- 6O verse portion is secured by screws'7 or other suitable fastening devices to the top of the window frame or casing 1, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The outwardlyextending pole-' supporting arm is provided between its ends 5 with a quarter-bend 8, and the outer portion 9 is curved to provide a pole-receiving portion or seat. By means .of the quarterbend the bar or piece presents one of its side faces broad bearing for the same to avoid scratching or otherwise marring the pole.

The adjustable member 5 is constructed of sheet metal or other suitable material and is bent between its ends to provide an outwardly extending shade roller supporting arm 10. The transversely-disposed portion of the adjustable member has its side edges bent inwardly at right angles to form side flanges 11, which embrace the side edges of the trans- 8O verse portion of the fixed or stationary member 4. The transverse portion of the movable or adjustable member is also provided between the flanges with a longitudinal slot 12, through which passes a screw 13, mount- 5 ed in a threaded perforation of the transverse portion of the fixed or stationary member and adapted to secure the movable member in its adjustment. A washer 14 is preferably. arranged on the screw for engaging the outer 9 face of the adjustable member; but the screws may be provided with any other means for this purpose. The side flanges prevent the adjustable member from pivoting or turning on the clamping-screw. One of the supporting-arms of the adjust able members is provided with a circular bearing-opening 15. for the reception of one to the curtain-pole to afford a comparatively 7 of the journals of the shade-roller, and the other supporting-arm of the adjustable members is provided with a notch or recess 16 to receive the journal which is connected with the spring of the shade-roller. The transverse portions of the fixed or stationary members extend outward beyond the sides of the window frame or casing, and the supportingarms of the adjustable members are located at or near the side edges of the window frame or casing. The adjustment of the movable members obviates the necessity of trimming curtain-shades, and the extension of the fixed or stationary members beyond the windowframe obviates the necessity of securing blocks to the wall at opposite sides of the windowframe.

The outwardly-extending supporting-arms of the adjustable members terminate short of the outer ends of the supporting-arms of the stationary or fixed members to enable the shade-rollers to lie within or between the curtain-pole and the transverse portions of the members, as indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawmgs.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I A device of the class described,comprising 1 a substantially L-shaped fixed or stationary member consisting of a transverse portion, an outwardly-extending supporting-arm and provided at its transverse portion with means for securing it to a window-frame, the said supporting arm being curved at its outer portion to ,provide a pole-receiving seat, a substantially L shaped adjustable member having a transverse portion and an outwardlyextending arm, the transverse portion being provided with side flanges to embrace the side edges of the transverse portion of the stationary member and being slotted between the flanges, and the outwardly-extending arm of the adjustable member being terminated short of the outer end of the arm of the fixed or stationary member, and fastening means mounted on the transverse portion of the stationary member and operating in the slot of the adjustable member for securing the same to the fixed or stationary member.
