To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, OLIVER LONDON and SWAN A. NELSON, citizens of the United States,.residing at Patton, in the county of Cambria and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Curtain and Sash- Supports, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to curtain and shade supports, and more particularly to a frame structure which is quickly and easily attached to any width or height of window frame, and which is adapted to support a shade roller, curtain pole' and sash curtain.

The primary object of our invention is to provide a device of the character above described, which will be simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, and one which is readily applicable to any size of window frame. I

Another object of our invention is to pro-- vide a supporting frame structurehaving extensible means associated therewith, a shade roller support, curtain pole support, and a frame adjustable vertically and laterally to support a sash curtain.

In our invention the device is frictionally retained in position on a window frame, and no screws or like fastening means such as are common in the present day devices are necessary.

A still further object of ourinvention is to provide a frame structure which is easily foldable into a small space for packing, the various parts being interchangeable for removal or renewal.

With the above and other objects in view our invention resides preferably in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which 1 Figure 1; is a front elevation of a window frame showing 'our invention in position thereon. In the. drawings a window frame-has been illustrated, reference being had to .Fig. 1 wherein our invention is shown assembled and in position for use. In Fig. l the window frame vor casing is designated 1 and the upper and lower sashes of the window embodiment of our invention we utilize the ledge above mentioned and for purposes of convenience in describing have designated the same 4.

The preferred embodiment of our invention includes a supporting frame comprising vertical supporting bars 5 and 6, these supporting bars being provided adjacent their respective lower extremities with substantially right angular portions 7 and 8 respectively for engagement with the ledge 4. The vertical bars 5 and 6 are adjustable therewith, said right angular portions 7 and 8 serving to support laterally extending screw-threaded bars9 and 10, these bars 9 and 10 being in threaded engagement with a tubular internallythreaded member 11 as shown at 12 in Fig. 2. The said tubular member ll is provided with a knurled por tion 13 to facilitate rotation of the same, it being understood that the arms 9 are oppositely threaded in the tubular member 11, so that rotation of the same will adjust the bars 5 and 6 to or from each other. The vertical bars 5 and 6 are provided at their respective upper extremities with channel portions 14 and 15 respectively, said channelportions receiving curtain pole supporting brackets 16 and 17 carried by the base plates 18 and 19 respectively, said base plates being mounted for longitudinal movement in the channel members. For location of the plates 18 and 19 in a desired position, set screws 20 illustrated to advantage in Figs. 4 and 6 are provided, said .set screws impinging upon the surfaces of the bars 5 and 6 and thereby retaining the plates 18 and 19in position. The right angular portions 7 and S are preferably provided on their respective outer faces with a frictional material, such as felt or the like designated 21, which is adapted to engage the faces of the ledge 4t and retain the vertical bars 5 and 6 in their proper positions. lining 21 will also prevent scratching or otherwise marring the Wood work of the window frame.

A shade roller support is provided and comprises a pair of fiat bars 22 and 23, said flat bars 22 and 23 being adjustable relatively and adjustably mounted in the vertical bars 5 and 6. The outer extremities of the bars 22 and 23 are bent outwardly at substantially right angles to the bars, as indicated at 2st, to provide supporting means .for a shade roller. In order to provide for the relative adjustment of the flat bars 22 and one of the bars, inthis particular instance the bar 22, is formed with a pair of loops or thelike 25 which are adapted to embrace and afford slidable engagement of the bar 22 with the bar 23, as shown to advantage in Fig. 5. A suitable set screw 26 is provided for an obvious purpose. In order to adjustably support the bars 22 and 23in the vertical bars 5 and 6 we have provided means on the said vertical bars 5 and 6 for engagement with the bars. This means preferably comprises a struck-out portion affording a strap of metal 27 formed by depressing the metal of the bars 5 and 6 as indicated at 27. The inner face of the strap 27 is disposed in a plane sufficiently beyond the plane of the outer faces of the bars 5 and 6 to accommodate the thickness and width of the bars. Both of the bars 5 and 6 are formed in the manner above set forth and upon reference to Figs. 3 and at it will be readily understood how the bars 22 and 23 are slidably engaged with the supporting bars 5 and 6. A set screw 28 is provided in the strap 27 for an obvious purpose.

In order to afford a means for supporting a sash curtain wehave provided a frame carried by the bars 5 and 6, the said frame being adjustable 'both laterally and verti cally relative to a window frame and comprising a pair of rods 29 and 30 depending from and rigidly, secured tothe bars 5 and 6, said bars 5 and 6 being enlarged at their lower extremities as indicated at 3l and 32 to afford means for reception of the upper extremities Of the rods29 and .30. The lower extremities of the rods 29 and 30 are receivable in tubular members 33 and 34 respectively, said tubular members being bent at substantially right, angles intermediate their respective lengths toprovide substantially horizontal portions 35 and 36 respectively. The free extremities of the horizontal portions 35 and 36 are receivable in a tubular member 37, said bars 29, 30, tubular members 33 and 34, and the tubular This felt member 37 being relatively adjustable, it being understood that suitable means may be provided for preventing relative movement of the above-mentioned elements from a set position, we having found that under ordinary conditions the snug reception of one of the members within the other affords ample frictional retaining means.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, use, and advantages of our invention may be readily gathered. In use the'bars 5 and (i are supported in position on a window frame, by adjusting the same to the desired width of window frame. This may be ac complished by, rotation of the tubular adjusting member 11, the right angular portions 7 and 8 of the vertical bars 5 and 6 engaging the ledge 4 at substantially opposite points and effectively retaining the supporting bars in position. The curtain pole supports may now be adjusted to the desired height and a curtain pole may be placed on the supports '17 and a window drapery placed upon the other support 16in any desired manner. If a shade roller is used, the bars 22 and 23 maybe adjusted to the desired length and'clamped in positionfand after the shade roller has been placed thereon, the bars may be'moved relative tothe supporting structure so as to center the shade on the window. 'After this operation the set screws 28 may be tightened, retaining the shade supports in position and also serving to secure the' bars 5 and 6' in posi-- tion. Should it be desired to use a sash curtain, the supporting structure therefor may be adjusted to the desired width and height. A sash curtain is receivable on the horizontal portions 35 and 36 and the tubular member 37 of the supporting frame therefor, a discussion of the manner in which the same is adjusted vertically and laterally is not thought to be necessary. j

\Vhile we have shown and describ'ed'our invention as possessing a peculiar form and construction, it is'desired' that it be under stood thatwe may make such changes in the details thereof that do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. Having thus described our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

A curtain and shade support, including a supporting frame adjustable to various widths of windows, means for supporting a curtain pole and a' shade roller arranged upon said frame and vertically adjustable relative thereto, and means carried by the frame and depending therefrom for supporting a sash curtain.
