Specification of Letters Patent.
7 Patented Apr. 12, 1921.
Application filed October 13, 1917, Serial No. 196,465. Renewed December 3, 1920. Serial No. 428,149.
To all whom it may concern:
"Be it known that I, JOHN H. GILBERT, a
citizen of the United States, residing, at:
Plant City, in the county of Hillsborough and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Shade-Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact" a bracket capable of being secured to a window frame in such a manner that the window shade roller and curtainpole. may be quickly and readily positionedltransversely across the window frame and supported in this position. Y
A still further object of this invention is to provide an adjustable shade bracket adapted to be permanently secured to window'frames and is provided with an adjustable shade roller supporting plate to compensate for shade rollers of various lengths.
A still further object of this invention is to provide an attaching plate adjustably and slidably carrying an adjustable curtain shade roller supporting member and the curtain shade supporting member provided with a curtain pole supporting arm, which is adapted to move vertically with relation to the shade roller supporting member.
A still further object of this invention is to this character, which will be simple, practical and comparatively inexpensive in construction, and one that can be manfactured and sold at a low cost.
With these and'other objectsin View, the
invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective View illustrating the adjustable shade bracket as made in accordance with my invention,
Fig.2 is a horizontal longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. I
I Referring'to the drawing, the numeral 5 designates the attaching plate of my adjustable, shade bracket in its entirety and it consists of a rectangular body 6. formed of any provide an adjustable shade'bracket of 7 vide the retaining flanges 7. The opposing walls of the flanges 7 are inclined as at 8 and theinclined faces of the flanges and theface of the body 6- define a substantially dovetail socket. 3 s or .The corners of the body 6 each have formed integrally therewith, and extending laterally therefrom, an apertured attaching lug 9, which apertured lugs are adapted to receive fastening means, such as screws,
nails or the llke to secure the plate 5 to'the window frame on opposite sides of the window sashes.
An adjusting plate coinprisingra body 10, which has its opposite ends bent upwardly at right angles thereto to provide guide flanges 11 and the opposing walls of, the gulde flanges 11 are inclined to provide at substantially dove tail socket to adjustably and slidably receive a rectangular supportmg plate 12.
. One end of the body' lO of the adjusting plate is extended laterally as at 13 and is provided with a knob 14 to facilitate the adjusting ofthe plate 10 in the socket of the plate 6. V
The opposite end of the plate is provided with a hollow rectangular extension 15, the wall of which is substantially rectangular as shown at 16 andis adapted to receive the squared 'pintle carried on one end of a cur tain shade roller. It is to be understood that the extension 15 on the'bracket arranged on the opposite side of the window has a round pintle to receive the round pin- I tle of the window shade roller to permit the curtain shade roller to be readily journaled in the extensions 15 respectively.
It is to be understood that by grasping J the knob 1 1, the plate 10 may be adjusted in the dove tailsdcket of the plate' 6, compensating for wlndow shade rollers of various lengths.
The supporting plate 12 has its opposite is side edges inclinedtoengage the dove tail socket formed by the guide flangesll, the upper end of the plate 12tapers upwardly as at 17 and terminates into a cylindrical collar 18, and the collar has threaded therein,a set screw 19, the purpose of which 7 will be hereinafter more fully described.
the plate 12 and engages the face of the plate 11 0 A set screw 20 extends centrally through 10 to permit the plate 12 to be adjusted vertically with relation to the plate 10 to raise.
and lower the curtain pole supporting rod 21. The curtain pole supporting rod is slidably arranged in the tubular extension 22, which extension is carried by the vertical shaft 23 which is slidably arranged in the cylin pensate for the'distance required for the curtain pole to be supported with relation to the window frame.
Itis to be apparent that the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings that the plate 6 is 1 secured to the window frame in the manner described, the plate 10 is then adjusted constitutes a handle also for adjusting the plate 10 in the plate 6. With the adjusting of the plate 10, the extensions 15 are adjusted 25.
away from one another to compensate for window shade rollers of various lengths.
It is then only necessary to adjust the plate 12 through the medium of the set screw and the device is ready for use, it being understood that all sizepoles and curtain shade rollers may be used in connection with the adjustable'shade bracket.
WVhat'is claimed is:
i c A shade bracket comprising an attaching means connecting said rod to said third plate for horizontal adjustment with relation thereto.
In testimony whereof affix my signa tu're in presence of two witnesses. through the medium of the screw 14:, which JOHN HENRY GILBERT.
