To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EMIL Dn CLERo a citizen of the United States, residing at Kankakee, in the county of Kankakee and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in VVindow-Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to window shade holders and more particularly to the class of adjustable window shade holders.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character in which a window shade will be held angularly from the window at the head thereof so as to permit ventilation of an inclosure therethrough thus avoiding the blowing of the shade when the upper window sash has been lowered in the window for ventilation purposes.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a window shade holder of this character in which the shade may be thrown close to the window for the darkening of an inclosure or it may be shifted away from the head of the window to permit ventilation.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a window shade holder which can be readily and quickly adjusted to vary the space of the shade from the window and which will be capable of mounting on various sizes of window casements.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple in construction, reliable and efficient in its purpose, strong, durable, and inexpensive in manufacture.

ith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

In the drawing: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window, showing the shade holder constructed in accordance with the invention and supporting a shade. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view through the frame of the holder. Fig. 4 is a side View of one of the bearings for the frame. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary edge elevation of a window showing the holder in shifted position.

responding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.

Referring to the drawing by numerals 5 designates generally a window frame casement of the ordinary well-known construction carrying the usual upper and lower sliding sashes and on which is adapted to be mounted the adjustable shade holder presently described. The adjustable shade holder comprises a pair of bearings or hangers 6 which are fixed to the window case ment 5 spaced from the head thereof in alinement with each other and between which is arranged a swinging frame including side limbs 7 in which are fixed pivot pins 8 the same engaging in the bearings or hanger 6, the limbs 7 being detachably connected to a uniting tube having outer and intermediate sections 9 and 10, the latter section telescoping in the sections 9 and is clamped therein by means of ferrules 11 surrounding said sections 9 which are provided with slits 12 to permit the contraction of the sections 9 by "the ferrules 11 and in the manner the frame may be adjusted to fit varying sizes of windows.

The upper ends of the limbs 7 of the frame are-angularly bent with respect to their remaining portion to provide offset extremities 13 in which is journaled the ordinary window shade roller 14 carrying the usual window shade 15 which is adapted to be wound upon and unwound from said roller in the ordinary well-known manner.

Formed on the hangers or bearings 6 are spring arms 16, the same being formed with a series of arcuately arranged indentations 17 in which are adapted to frictionally engage locking pins 18 mounted in the limbs 7 so as to hold the frame in adjusted position whereby the window shade 15 may be held away from the window casement 5 at the head thereof to permit ventilation 0n the lowering of the upper sash of the window.

On pulling outwardly upon the lower end of the frame the window shade 15 will be thrown into close relation to the window casement 5 throughout the extent thereof, thereby permitting the darkening of an in closure.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that the construction, combination and operation of the invention will be clearly understood, and therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.

WVhat is claimed is A shade holder comprising a pair of brackets adapted to be secured at opposite out-turned ends of the said limbs, and lugs fixed in the limbs and engageable in any one of the indentations in the resilient arms for l5 adjustably sustaining the frame With respectto the Window casing.
