ADJUSTABLE WINDOW-SHADE HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 29, 19059 Application filed October 10, 1904:. Serial No. 227,910.
To all whom it 'nuty concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT S. Narma a citizen of the United States, residing at Leonard, in the county of Fannin and State of Texas, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Adjustable Window- Shade Hangers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improved windowshade hanger; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap, simple, strong, and durable device of this character which is adapted to be adjusted to fit windows of various widths and shaderollers which vary in length and which may be readily put up and taken down.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a window-shade hanger embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same, showing the sections of my improved shade-hanger detached from each other; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line a a of Fig. 1.
My improved window-shade hanger comprises a pair of sections 1 2, each of which is made from a strip of sheet metal bent at its outer end to form a lug or ear 3, that projects at right angles therefrom. The lug or ear 3 of the section 2 has a circular opening 4 to receive the cylindrical trunnion at one end of the curtain-roller, and the lug or ear 5 of the section 1 has a rectangular opening 6 to receive the correspondingly-shaped trunnion at the opposite end of the window-shade roller. Each of the said sections is provided at its inner end with a pair of oppositely-extending ears 7, and each of the said sections has a pair of longitudinal parallel outwardly-pressed corrugations S. The corrugations of the respective sections match, so that those of one section fit in the concave sides of those of the other section, as shown in detail in Fig. 2. Hence the sections are slidably related, so that they may be extended or retracted longitudinally to adapt the hanger to the width of the window or length of the shade-roller with which it is to be employed. The ears 7 of each section are bent over the other section, as shown in Fig. 3, and hence the said sections are connected together, so that they cannot become casually disconnected; Each section has a longitudinal slot 9.
To secure the hanger to the face of a window-frame, I provide a pair of screws, pins, or other suitable devices 10, the shanks of which are adapted to enter the slots 9. The said fastening devices length that when turned angularly with ref erence to the slots said heads bear against the outer side of the hanger, and hence secure the same in place. The width of the said head is less than that of the said slots, so that when the devices are turned so as to dispose theirheads parallel with the slots the hanger may be readily removed from the said -fastening devices.
The lug or bracket 5 of the hanger-section 1 is formed with an integral spring-arm 12, which extends over the open end of the angular opening and which may be bent later ally to uncover the said opening to facilitate the insertion of the angular trunnion of the shade-roller in the said opening or its removal therefrom, it being understood that the said spring-arm serves to retain the said trunnions in place in the said opening. By the provision of this spring-arm my improved shaderoller hanger may be secured with either side up, as in the event that the arm 12 is on the under side of the opening it will support the angular trunnion and the corresponding end of the shade-roller, as will be understood.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A sheet metal window-shade hanger provided with an integral bearing bracket or lug, bent therefrom, said bracket or lug havhave heads 11 of suchmy hand in presence of two subscribing Wit nesses.
ALBERT s. NEALE.
