CURTAIN-YPLE AND SHADE HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 752,425, dated February 16, 1904.
Application filed November 16,4 1903. Serial No. 181,396. (No modelli To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIRAMRION S. SPANGLER,
of Terre Haute, county of Vigo, and State of.
Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful Curtain-Pole and Shade Hanger; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like figures refer to like parts.
The object of this invention is to provide convenient means for supporting windowcurtain poles and shades that may be readily attached to or detached from any windowcasing and readily adjusted to windows of various widths and curtains of various Widths. The device mounts the window-shade and curtain-support without driving nails or in any wise injuring the window-casing.
The full nature of this invention will be understood from the following description and claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device with a portion of a window-casing, a curtain, a curtain-pole, and a shade shown in place. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the hanger by itself.
In detail, represents the side casing of a window; 11, a curtain-pole; 12, a curtain suspended from said pole, and 13 a shade mounted on the roller 14.
The hanger consists of a member 15, longitudinally slidable in another member, 16, and clamped in place by a set-screw 17, that extends from the member 15 through a longitudinal slot 18 in the member 16. The opposite ends of said members 15 and 16 are turned at a right angle inward and have ciaws 19, adapted to engage the opposite edges of the side of the window-casing and hold the hanger in place. Those two claws are driven into the wood tightly. and then the set-screw 17 tightened. There are a'pair of guide-fingers 20, that extend rearward from the member 16 for guiding one end of the member 15 while the i set-screw 17 guides the other end of Said member.
A bracket 21 is secured on the member 16 and extends upward therefrom for receiving and supporting the curtain-pole. The window-shade 13 is supported by a downwardlyextending bracket 22, that is held at its upper end bya set-screw 23, that passes through a lower longitudinal slot 24 andthe member 16 and has on its rear end a head wider than the slot 24, as is well known, and therefore not here shown, for clamping the bracket 22 to the member 16. The bracket 22, at its lower end, has an ear 25 with a hole 26 in it to receive the pin 27 from the curtain-roller 14.
It is thus seen that this hanger may be readily attached or detached from windowcasings of varying widths by merely adjusting the position of the set-screw 17. Also it securely holds itself in place without injuring the wood of the window-casing. Likewise the bracket 22 for supporting the shade may be laterally adjusted with ease to accommodate a shade to windows of varying widths. This renders the device convenient for persons while changing residences or for changing the window-shade from one window to another.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hanger for curtain-poles and windowshades comprising two members mounted in connection with each other, one of said members having two longitudinal slots in it one above the other, a guideway at one end thereof, and inwardly-extending claws at the other end, the other member fitting in said guideway and having claws on its outer end, a set-screw se'- cured to said last-mentioned member and eX- tending through the upper slot in the other member whereby the two are held together so as to be longitudinally slidable with reference to each other and whereby said members may be clamped on the side of the windowcasing, a bracket secured to one of said members and extending upward therefrom and then outward for supporting a curtain-pole, a shadesupporting bracket extending down from said slotted member and having a perforated ear on its lower end for receiving the end of the shade-roller, and a. eleunping-screw extending through the upper end of said bracket and thelower slot insaid slotted rnem# ber whereby said lower bracket may be laterally adjusted and secured in place to accommodate shade-rollers of varying lengths substantially as set forth. v
