@In Stlgehnle maar: in iirilgtsrettas Egiziani una mating @nti tt tige smite.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY ONCERN:
Be it known'that 1, WENDELL WREGHT, of Bloomfield, in the county oi -Essex, -and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and improved Fastening for Shirts, Shawls, and other Garments; a'nd I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use` the-same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forrning a part of this specification.
lhis invention relates to a new and improved fastening for shirts, shawls, and other garments, and is more especially designed as a substitute for studs, buttons, shawl-pins, Ste., &c. v
The object of the invention is to ohtaina secure, economical, and neat fasteningof the kind specified, and one whiehmay be readily applied to and detached from the garment, and will not require button-holes or perforations in the garment, in order to apply or use it. In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure lis a perspective view of my invention, y i
Figure 2 a front view of theisame'applied to a shirt-bosom,
Figure 3 a horizontal section of the same taken in the line a: x, iig. 2.
Similar letters of' reference .indicate corresponding parts. v
A represents a plate, which may be of steel oli-'other suitable metal, and of any proper dimensions. This plate is ci' rectangular forni, and has four slits, a, made in it longitudinally, two slits extending inward from each end, nearly toits centre, as shown clearly in iig. 1.
The portions b of' the platel, between'the two slits a a, at each end of the plate, are designed to operate as springs, and the ends ofthe portions. c, at the outer sides ofthe slits a, are curved or bent over, to form eyes d, toreceive pintles e, which pass through heads or hubsf, at the inner ends of plates B B, the eyes, pinties, and heads or hubs forming joints or hinges, by which the'plates B B agie secured tothe plate A. The springs of 'the plate bear againstthe heads or hubs f,iwh'ich are each provided with twoA iat or plane surfaces, said springs having:r a tendency to keep the plates B B in an open state, that is,'at right angles with plate A, and also inia eiosedvstate, or against plate A, according to which fiat or plane surface of the heads or hubs the springs b are made to bear against, a slight movement of the plates B'allowing them to open or close readily.
'lhe-inner surfaces of theiplates B Bare provided with series of sharp points, g, one or more of which may pass through perforations iu `the plate A.
From the above description it will be seen that the edgesoi' any textile 'or exible fabric, such, forinstance, as the edges'of a shirt-bosom, shawl, wristbands of a shirt, Sie., 82o., may he scoured together by simply adjusting the edges between the plate A and the plates B B.
y The plates B B may be made ornamental, if desired, and when the device is to be applied to shirt-bosoms said plates should be of gold, and may be set with precious stohes.
Having thus described my i nvention Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent The plates A, 13 13, connected together by joints or hinges, provided with springs b I), the plates B being provided with spurs or points, all constructed and arranged substantially in the manner ,as and for the purpose set forth.
