CONRAD GRABE, OF SOLL IT'T, ILLINOlt-i.
PLOW OH BULTlVATOFi @LAWlPi SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 788,830, dated February 28,
Application iiled June 15, 1904 Serial No. 212,594-
1'0 (ti/Z whom, it I'll/(Ly concern.-
Be it known that I, CONRAD (relies, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sollitt, in the county of Kankakee and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow or Cultivator Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a novel construction in a clamp particularly adapted to secure the blades of cultivators and the like to the frame or carriage thereof and permit ready adjustment of the same, the object being to provide a simple and eflicient device of this character; and it consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
in the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure l is a side elevation of a clamp constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of same. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of same. Fig. 4 is a detail transverse section of the same on the line 4: 4 of Fig. 3.
My said clamp comprises a member the middle portion of which consists of a curved plate A, which terminates at one end in a flange or projection B, which is relatively so disposed that one side edge thereof is substantially tangential to said plate and the other side edge thereof is offset from the end of said plate. At its other end said plate A is provided with a flange U, at the free end of which is a projection D, which is flush with the flange B, the said flange and prOjection being thus relatively disposed at a slight angle to said plate. In said flange l) is a lateral slot E, the innermost wall of which is serrated to provide recesses F, adapted to receive the shank of one of the bolts by means of which said member is secured to the blade of the cultivator or the like to hold said member against lateral movement relatively to said blade. The projection 13 is provided with a longitudinal slot G, adapted to receive the shank of the other bolt securing said member to the blade, thereby permitting said member to be moved longitudinally on said blade at distance equal to the depth of said recesses F to enable said plate to be turned relatively to the blade. Said plate A is provided with a longitudinal slot H and on its inner face with a longitudinal recess J of greater width than said slot, said recess being so disposed relatively to said slot that the square head of a bolt K, the shank of which is passed through said slot, will engage the walls of said recess and be thus held against rotation. lly providing said recess J, .I. am enabled to use either a square-l'ieaded bolt or a bolt having a square shank adjacent the head. .ln the event that the latter is used the said square portion of the shank will engage the side walls of said slot and be thus held against rotation.
My said clamp is particularly adapted for use in connection with certain kinds of cultivators in which the arms to which the blades are secured have the shape in cross-section of a segment of a hollow cylinder.
By disposing the flange B and projection l) at an angle relatively to the plate A, l obtain greater latitude of adjustment and am enabled to set the blades in positions in which their efficiency is greatly increased.
ll claim as my invention 1. A plow-clal'np comprising a plate having a concaved outer faceand provided with a longitudinal slot, said plate terminating at one end in a flange one side of which is substantially tangential to said plate, said flange being oil?- set at an incline to the end of said plate, a flange at the other end of said plate, a projection at the free end of said flange disposed flush with said first-named flange, said projection having a longitudinal slot, and said lirstnamed flange having a lateral slot one wall of said lateral slot being provided with recesses, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. A plow-clamp comprising a plate terminating at its ends in flanges having boltslots, the middle portion of said plate being segmental, having an outer concaved face and provided with a longitudinal slot, one end of said middle portion being farther removed from the plane of said flanges than the other thereof and supported at said end by a post.
3. A plow-clamp comprising a plate tersaid flanges than the other end of same, and I0 minating at its ends in flanges-having boltslots, the middle portion of said plate being segmental, having an outer coneaved face and provided with a longitudinal slot, the inner face of said segmental portion being provided with a longitudinal recess of greater Width l than said slot, one end of said segmental portion being farther removed from the plane of supported at said end by a post.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
CONRAD GRABE.
