PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL F. PRINTZ, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
WATER-BACK FOR STOVES.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters'latent No.'782,358, dated February 14, 1905.
Application flied December 10, 1903. Serial No. 184,534.
To all whom, it may concern: I
Be it known that I, DANIEL F. PRINTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Berks and State of'Pen nsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Water-Backs for Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in stoves in general, and particularly to the means of securing the water-back in the fire-chamber in such a manner that the pipe connections therewith will not be disturbed. Ordinarily the rocking of the grate-bars will jar these parts, and this constant action will cause weak joints and consequent leakage. I prevent this occurrence by my present invention, the details of which are fully described in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a portionof the stove in vertical cross-section With my invention in position. Fig. 2 is a detailed view of the waterback in perspective. I
The numeral 1 designates a water-back, the rear wall of which is provided with a transverse longitudinal depression or groove 2, extending entirely across the same.
The numeral 3 indicates the stove-body provided with a transverse longitudinal rib 4, which is adapted to be seated in the groove 2 in the rear wall of the water-back 1 when the same is in position. This rib and groove are preferably made square in cross-section, as shown, though they may be of any other desired form best suited for the purpose.
The numeral 5 designates the water-pipe connections in one end of the water-back, and 6 indicates a rest or support secured to the wall of the stove-body, upon-which the waterback rests, said support being provided with an upwardly-projecting lip along the front edge thereof, behind which the lower end of the water-back rests when the same is in position.
The numeral 7 designates the approximate location of the grate-bars. A
When the parts are in position and the gratebars operated, the water-back 1 will be held from any perceptible vertical movement by means of the groove 2 and rib 4 and any longitudinal movement by the lip on the front edge of the support 6. This will tend to preserve the pipe connections, thus insuring them against leakage.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a stove, the combination with the wall thereof, said wall being provided with a transverse longitudinal rib, and a support secured to the wall below the rib; said support being provided with an upwardly-projecting lip along the front edge thereof of a water-back, the rear face thereof being provided with a transverse longitudinal groove, the lower end of said water-back being adapted to rest upon the support and behind the lip in such a position that the rib 0n the stove-wall will enter the groove in the rear face of the water-back to prevent any vertical or longitudinal movement of the same.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses DANIEL F. PRINTZ. Witnesses:
ED. A. KELP, CAMERON E. S'rRAUss.
