Description

R w. AH RA APPLICATION FILED FEB. 4. 1907.
'wum/vl o'c Hm RRasor HARRY F. 'RASOR, or BARBERTON, orno.
GRATE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 23, 1907.
Original application filed February 2 6,1 906, Serial No. 303,046. Divided and this application filed February 4, 1 9 7. Serial No. 3 55,6 71.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY F. RASOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Barberton, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grates; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to. make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved grate for stoves and furnaces.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, durable and highly efficient fire grate upon which the coal or other fuel will be consumed so as to give the best results.
This application is a division of my application, Serial No. 303,046, filed Feb. 26, 1906.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of this im proved grate detached; Fig. 2 represents a Vertical section through the lower part of a furnace with this improved grate applied.
In the embodiment illustrated, this grate comprises an annular member or plate 1 provided with radial slots as 2 and having an upwardly-projecting, outwardly-flared member 3 extending from the inner edge of the member 1 and preferably made integral therewith. This frusto-conical member 3 also has radially arranged slots as 4 which preferably register with the slots as 2 of the horizontal member 1. This lower horizontal member 1 ders as 5 on the inner face of the ash pit wall 6 of the furnace so that the air may pass up through slots as 2 and 4 to the coal upon the grate, and the ashes may fall down through said slots into the ash pit. The grate center 7 is preferably made in the form of a cone which rests on its upper face at its lower edge against an annular seat 8 formed in the plate 1. This grate center 7 is normally held in its elevated or closed position by the lever 9 pivoted at 10 to the side of the ash pit or by any other suitable means and is lowered only when it is desired to remove the clinkers and to clean out the lire-box. This lever 9 is held in adjusted position by means of a vertical rack 11 attached to the ash pit wall. The member 1 is mounted to be rotated on the lugs 5 by means of a lever 12 or any other suitable means, so that the fire may be shaken when desired.
I claim as my invention In a heater, the combination with a body having a grate support, of a rotary grate comprising a slotted horizontal ring rotatably mounted in said grate support, a slotted ring extending upwardly and outwardly from the inner edge of the horizontal ring, a vertically movable cone-shaped center piece, and means for raising and lowering said center piece.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HARRY F. RASOR.
