PATENT @EETCE.
STOCKING-SUPPORTER- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 781,806, dated ebruary 7, 1905.
Application filed June 16,1904. Serial No. 212,854.
1'!) (1/7 lr/mnt [1 may cmmcrn:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM BOTERMANS, a subject of the Queen of the Netherlands, residing at 9T Oranjeplein, The Hague, Netherlands, have invented a new and useful Stocking-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
y invention relates to certain improvements in stocking-supporters, preferably for the use of ladies; and it consists in providing an ordinary garter with two flexible means of support placed on the opposite sides of the leg. The supporters are fastened at one end to the garter, while the free ends thereof extend upward. These upper ends serve to hold the upper edge of the stocking. The garter is put on the bare leg and the stocking drawn over it, covering the entire supporter.
My invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation of the supporter arranged with the leg straight, whereby the hose is cut away to show the supporter; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the supporter arranged with the leg bent, the ornamental material being removed; and Fig. 3 shows a cross-section on line A B in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the stocking supporter consists of two flexible forks (1, the shaft of each fork being fastened to an ordinary garter o. The forks a extend upward from the garter I). On the free end of each fork u. a buckle c is arranged on the two respective prongs. The buckle is preferably provided With sharp needle-points capable of being lifted or shut down on a strip of steel spring. In use the garter u is fastened just below the knee, and the upper end of the stocking is then held in position by the huekles c.
The forks r/ are made of any suitable material; but preferably 1 construct them of steel wire in spiral form. The lower end of each shaft terminates in a rectangle of wire forming an eye (Z, which is stitched to the garter I). The entire fork is covered with suitable ornamental material.
Having thus described the nature of my invention, what 1 claim is 1. In a stockirig-supporter the combination of an ordinary garter, two spiral wire forks extending upward arranged opposite one another on the garter and a buckle provided with movable needle-points arranged on each fork, as and for the purpose specified.
In a stocking-supporterthe combination of an ordinary garter, two spiral wire forks extending upward arranged opposite one another on the garter, a buckle having movable needle-points arranged on each fork, and a cover of ornamental material over the forks and the garter, as and for the purpose specified.
