TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONOERN:
Be it known that I, HENRY MORGAN, of Springfield, Hampden county, Commonwealth of llassachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improved Clothes-Line Holder;' and'I do hereby declare that the following is a full and clear description thereof, reference being had" to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a side view, and
Figure 2 a front view of my device. p .Y
This invention consists of anew and improved arrangement for holding a clothes-line while it is stretched, and also enabling it to be stretched more perfectly. i
' In construction, I form my device with a pulley, A, of a size corresponding to the'size ofthe rope intended to be held by it, and a cam, B, arranged upon a. plate, O, bymeans of rivets a and a. The cam B has a spring n'it or attached to it, which presses it against the pulley, as shownin iig. and the rope being. put Vthrough between the pulley and the face of the cam, can easily be drawn Oneway, as .the friction would pull the cam- -face away from the pulley; but if ythe rope should be'pulled in the other direction, the cam would be drawn wit-h it towards the pulley, and clamp the rope between them, holding it ino-re tightly as it was drawn tighter.' Theface of the cam, at D, isfcorrugated, so as to give a greater friction wheneholding the rope, and the pulley is grooved,`so that the rope ts closely to it, and is not apt to get out of place when an angle is taken by its i two directions, the apex being formed at the pulley.
The plate O may-be formed in any convenient shape for attaching the device to fences, posts, I85e., and is furnished with screw-holes. A l
VI render the action ofthe clamp formed by the cam and pulley more'certain by furnishing them with gear c e, Src., so that when the pulley turns, the cam is obliged to move with By this means I obtain a simple device, answering all the requirements of its design in they most satisfactory manner, and one having the great advantage of holdig the rope at any angle, and'yetproviding it with a pulley when it vis desired to shift it.A
Now, having described my invention,w hat I claim as newgand desire to secure bJLetters Patent, is The combination of thev pulley A and cam B with the gear c c, when' arranged upon a plate, O, substantially in the manner and for the purpose shown.
HENRY MORGAN.
