BOTTLE CARD HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 775,988, dated November 29, 1904. Application filed March 17,1904. Serial No. 198,599. (No nodch) T0 ctZl whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM RINKER, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Card-I-Iolders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to bottle card-holders; and its object is to provide a device in the na ture of a card holding bottle-neck clip of special construction for displaying in suitable position a card or label setting forth the name of the fluid contained in the bottle or an advertisement relating thereto.
I attain the stated object by forming the device as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, of which-- Figure 1 represents the neck of a bottle with my invention attached and bearing a card, the rear surface of the invention being shown. Fig. 2 is a perspective View 01 the invention detached.
Like letters refer to like parts throughout the drawings.
Each constituent element of my invention is described in detail and its individual oilice, together with the mode of operation of the whole, fully explained below.
Considering the drawings, the letter A designates the neck of any bottle having a relatively long neck, such as a wine-bottle. 1 do not confine myself to long-neck bottles, as the invention is equally adapted for short-neck bottles. A long-neck bottle, however, permits the illustration of the form of my invention used thereon which most prominently exemplifies the peculiarities of construction claimed by me.
Letter B marks the bottle-neck clip element of my invention. it is adapted to engage the neck A, as shown. Rising from the rear of the clip B and formed from the same metal sheet is an outwardly and upwardly curved connecting portion C, joining the rear of the bottleneck clip and the card-holder D. The card-holder consists in the drawing of re silient side and middle parts, as shown, adapted to receive and clasp the card E, holding it in suitable position to best display the matupright attitude.
ter printed upon it; but I do not confine myself to the particular form of card-holder illustrated, as it might obviously be varied in structure while serving the same purpose. It is desired only that the card-holder should be placed to show of? the card to the best advantage.
Projecting downwardly from the rear oi the bottle-neck clip B are two twin divergent legs F. It will be noted that each leg is given a slight curving twist, which causes them, al-
though spreading apart downwardly, to lie closely against the surface of the bottleneck A. The office of legs F is to assist the clip in maintaining the card-holder Din its desired For example, the natural gravitation acts to throw the top of card holder 1) outwardly-that is, away from the neck A. This movement'is resisted by the pressure of the legs inwardlyagainst the neck and the vertical position of the card maintained.
It is most convenient to make the entire device from a single piece of sheet metal suitably stamped and formed.
\Vhat .l claim is 1. A bottle card-holder comprising a device adapted to clasp and support a card, a spring-clip constructed to engage the neck of a bottle, and legs extending downwardly from the said spring-clip and arranged to touch the bottle whereby the said card-holder is maintained in a vertical position, substantially as described.
2. A bottle card-holder comprising a springclip constructed to engage the neck of a bot tle, a card-clasp supported at the rear and above said spring-clip, and legs extending downwardly from the rear of said spring-ch p and arranged to touch the bottle whereby the said holder is maintained in a vertical position, substantially as described.
3. A bottle card-holder formed of a single piece of sheet metal, comprising a spring-clip constructed to engage the neck of a bottle, a card-clasp supported at the rear and above said spring-clip, and legs extending downwardly from the rear oi said s 'iring-clip and arranged to touch the bottle whereby the said holder is maintained in a vertical position, whereby the said holder is maintained in a I 0 substantially as described. vertical position, substantially as described.
i. A bottle card-holder formedof a single In testimony whereof Iaflix my signature in piece of sheet metal, comprising a spring-clip presence of two Witnesses. constructed to engage the neck of a bottle, a
card-clasp supported at the rear and above 7 WILLIAM RINKER' said spring-clip, and curved divergent legs Witnesses: extending downwardly from the rear of said CHARLES S. Horr',
spring-clip and arranged to touch the bottle EDITH MERRITT.
