Description

PATENTED NOV. 8, 1904.
B. SIBBAALD.
COLLAR FASTENING DEVICE.
APPLICATION IILED JUNE 24, 1904.
N0 MODEL.
INVENTOR 19 21222 Sibbald wmvsssts I1 TTURNEYS UNITED STATES Patented November 8, 1904.
EMMY SIBBALD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COLLAR-FASTENING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 774,339, dated November 8, 1904.
Application filed June 24;, 1904. Serial No. 213,917. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMY SIBBALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Fastening Devices, of which the followingis a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to fastening devices for ladies collars; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is designed for use in connection with the present style of ladies collars and to provide a simple and effective means for securing the ends of the collar at the back of the neck, so as to hold the collar in proper position and prevent it from wrinkling or folding.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a ladys collar provided with my improved fastening device; Fig. 2, a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a side elevation showing the separate parts of the fastening device disconnected.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification I have shown at a an ordinary collar, such as is now worn by ladies and which in practice is made of any suitable textile material, and in the practice of my invention I provide a device for securing the ends thereof at the back of the neck, Which comprises a flexible strip or plate I), composed of any suitable materialsuch as celluloid, rubber, silver, or goldand said strip or plate is provided adjacent to each end with a pin 0, which is secured therein and provided with a conical head (Z, and in connection with each of the pins 0 is employed an independent button 6 similar in construction to the socket member of an ordinary glove-button. The buttons 6 are provided with spring-socket recesses 6 adapted to receive the conical heads cl of the pins 6, and in practice the separate ends of the collar (6 are provided with eyelets or ordinary buttonholes, and the strip or plate 6 is placed transversely of the inner end of the collar when the collar is placed in position on the neck, and the pins 0 are passed through the eyelets or holes in both ends of the collar and the buttons e are pressed onto said pins in the ordinary manner and may be removed therefrom in the usual Way, this operation being similar to that of fastening and unfastening a glove.
The ends of the collaigneed not necessarily be provided with buttonholes or eyelets, as collars of this style are usually not so provided, and in view of this fact the heads CZ of the pins 0 are slightly pointed, so that they may be forced through the material of the collar, this construction being clearly shown in Fig. 3, and the buttons 0 are so made as to receive and accommodate the heads (Z, whether pointed or not.
The buttons 6 may be made in any desired style and of any preferred material and may be ornamented according to any design.
This device is simple in construction and operation and may be used in connection With any kind or class of collars and may also be employed for fastening collars at the front. if desired, and whenever it is necessary to launder the collar the fastening device is removed therefrom.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A fastening device for ladies collars, comprising an oblong strip or plate provided at or adjacent to each end with a pin having a pointed head, and independent buttons having spring-recesses adapted to receive the heads of said pins, said pin-heads being adapted to be passed through the material of a collar, substantially as shown and'described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed myname, in presence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 22d day of June, 1904:- i
EMMY SIBBALD.
