PATENT OFFICE.
GARTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 771,442, dated October 4, 1904.
Application filed January 16, 1904. Seiial No. 189,358. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, STEPHEN C. PAnDooK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Malone, in the county of Franklin and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Garter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to garters, and more particularly to that class employed for supporting mens hose.
The object of the invention is in a ready and practical manner and without discomfort to the wearer to support hose of any length, and, further, to insure the proper holding of the garters when once adjusted to position.
With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a garter, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts, there is illustrated one form of embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that the elements therein exhibited may be varied or changed as to shape, proportion, and exact manner of assemblage without departing from the spirit thereof.
In the drawing the figure is a view in perspective of a garter, exhibiting the same as it appears when positioned for use.
The garter comprises a leg-band 10, of suitable webbing, at one end of which is arranged a ring or eye 11 to be engaged by a hook 12, carried by the opposite end, to hold the band upon the leg in such manner as positively to obviate the employment of the usual straps employed for this purpose. To efi'ect adjustment of the band, there is provided a slipbuckle 13, which engages the band proper, and an inturned portion, in this instance that portion which engages the ring 11. This buckle operates in a well-known manner to hold the band at any desired adjustment. Mounted upon the band, on opposite sides thereof, are two slides 14 and 15, and connected with each of these slides is a supporting- strap 16 and 17, having connected with their free ends in any preferred manner spring- clasps 18 and 19. Each strap carries a slip- buckle 20 and 21, by means of which the straps may be adjusted according to the length of the hose. The band and supporting-straps may be either of elastic or non-elastic webbing, as may be preferred.
It will be seen from the foregoing description that while the device of this invention is exceedingly simple of construction it will be found thoroughly effective in use for the purpose designed and may be readily manufactured without the employment of expensive machinery for the purpose.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is- A garter comprising a longitudinally-adjustable one-piece leg-band, one terminal of which is provided with a hook and the other with an eye, slides mounted on opposite sides of the band, longitudinally-adjustable supporting-straps associated with the slides, and spring-clasps combined with the straps.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
