PATENT OFFICE.
ENDLESS NECKTIE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 771,163, dated September 27, 1904. Application filed February 1,1904. Serial No. 191,497. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH P. LEGGETT, a citizen of the United States, residing in Carthage, in the county Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Endless Neckties, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. 1
My invention relates to an improvement in neckties, and has for its object to provide a necktie consisting of an endless band that may be readjusted from time to time to expose a fresh surface near the ends of a tie for the formation of a tie-bow whenever such portions become soiled or worn.
The invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Figure I is a, perspective View of my tie. Fig. II is a longitudinal section taken partially through the tie at the location of one of the loop-keepers thereon. Fig. III is a cross-section taken through the tie and one of the loop-keepers. Figs. IV and V are perspective views illustrating modifications of the tie-keepers.
1 designates an endless band that is folded together at its ends as distinguished from the ordinary necktie, which is of a single strip. This endless band is designed to be used to encircle the collar of a wearer and have the portions near its ends formed into a bow or knot of any desirable nature.
In the use of the band 1 as a tie it may when the end portions thereof become soiled or worn be shifted by drawing the previous central portions of the band toward the folded ends, thereby furnishing fresh bow or knot surfaces, the shifting operation being continued from time to time until the entire band becomes too worn or soiled to be suitable for further use.
2 represents keeper-loops that are loosely applied to the band 1 intermediate of its ends and by which the band in its endless form is of Jasper and State of retained to prevent separation of its two sides. These loops are preferably in the form illustrated in Figs. I to III, inclusive.
In Fig. IV I have shown a modification consisting of a keeper 2. having a stiffener 3 located therein to separate the sides of the folded band 1, the purpose of introducing this stiffener being to avoid edgewise compression of the band to the injury of the necktie.
In Fig. V I have shown a modification in which two keepers 2 are used and united by a stiffener 3*, that enters into both of the keepers and serves the same purpose as that mentioned in regard to the construction illustrated in Fig. IV.
I claim as my invention 1. As a new article of manufacture, a necktie consisting of an endless band of uniform Width throughout adapted to be folded at any point of its length to form two substantially parallel halves and two free ends adapted to be tied together to form a bow-knot, substantially as set forth.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a necktie consisting of an endless band of uniform width throughout adapted to be folded at any point of its length to form two substantially parallel halves, the folded band having two free ends adapted to be tied together to form a bow-knot, and a keeper loosely inclosing the two halves of the band and having its inner face of same width as the band, substantially as set forth.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a necktie consisting of an endless band of uniform width throughout adapted to be folded at any point to form two substantially parallel halves, the folded band having two free ends adapted to be tied together to form a bow-knot, a keeper loosely inclosing the two halves of the band and having its inner face of same width as the band, and a stiffener in said keeper dividing the keeper in two symmetrical halves forming a guideway for each half of the band, substantially as set forth.
4. As a new article of manufacture, a necktie consisting of an endless band of uniform Width throughout adapted to be folded at any dividing them symmetrically to form guidepoint of its length to form two substantially Ways for each half of the band, substantially I parallelihalales, Ellie fgldeddbancl havingftwo as set forth.

and a stifiener connecting said keepers and NELLIE M. HOUGH.
