Be it known that I, ALFRED A. BOISMAURE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jewel-Mountings, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide a mounting for jewels or other ornaments comprising a base, a frame, or support, a stationary crystal or other transparent or translucent front member held by said frame or support, and a vibratory member resiliently connected with the base, frame, or support rearwardly of the stationary crystal, transparent, or translucent member, whereby the vibration of the resiliently-supported member as seen through the crystal, transparent,
or translucent front member, produces a brilliant and attractive effect, the character of which will vary according to the character of the vibratory member and the form of the holder of the front member; and with these and other objects in view, which will be hereinafter fully described, the invention consists in a device of the class specified, constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of a jewel-mounting made according to my invention; Fig. 2, a central vertical section thereof; Fig. 3, a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 a face view of the vibratory member or part of the mounting.
1n the practice of my invention as shown in the drawings I provide an ordinary stickpin a, the larger end of which is bent, as shown at (0 and provided with a substantially annular frame or support a rigidly secured thereto or formed integrally therewith and supported parallel with the pin a and which is also provided at the back thereof with a backwardly-curved cross member (i, which 5 0 may also be secured to the pin a, if desired, and as thus constructed the parts a and a form a frame or support for the jewel-mount ing, as hereinafter described. Connected with the part a of the frame or support is a substantially annular casing o, provided in the form of construction shown with annularly-arranged openings 6 and the annular casing 5 is provided at the front thereof with an open-work annulus 6 of any desired configuration or ornamentation, and provided with annularly-arranged openings 6*, and secured in the center of the open-work annulus Z2 or set therein in any desired manner is a crystal or other transparent or translucent member 0. 5 Although I have described the part 5 as an annulus and the parts 5 and a as substantially annular, it will be seen that all of these parts are slightly elliptical in form; but it will be understood that all of said parts may be circular in form, if desired, in which event the part 6 would be a perfect annulus.
Arranged centrally of the casing b and rearwardly of the open-work annulus If and of the crystal, transparent, or translucent front member 0, supported in said annulus, is the vibratory member (Z, which in the form of construction shown comprises a central polished portion (Z around which is a substantially annular portion (Z slightly countersunk and roughened or frosted, and this part of the vibratory member (Z is provided with a number of forwardly-directed supplemental members cl", which equal in number the holes or openings 6* in the annulus b and which ex- 5 tend into said holes or openings and through or substantially through the same and the ends of which are also highly polished. The vibratory member (Z is supported in the following manner: Secured to the back thereof 9 is a tubular casing 6, provided at the side opposite the vibratory member with a transverse opening 0 parallel with the pin a, and passed centrally through the tubular casing e is a pin 6 which is secured in the ends of said casing. Inclosing the pin 0 within the casing c is a loop or yoke shaped member f, the sides of which are brought together and passed through the opening a in said casing, as clearly shown at f in Fig. 3 and also in Fig. 2, and the said sides of the loop or yoke shaped member f are rigidly secured to the part a of the frame or support at f by solder or in any desired manner. Arranged within the loop or yoke shaped member f is a spiral spring one end of which is secured to the pin 6 and the other end of which is secured between the sides f of the loop or yoke shaped member f, where said sides are secured to the part a of the frame or support, and as thus constructed the loop or yoke shaped member f forms a guard for and protects the spiral spring g and also provides means for securing one end of said spring to the part (0* of the frame or support, the end of the spring being, as hereinbefore stated, secured between the side portions of the loop or yoke shaped member f, where the latter are secured to the part a. The spring g may be coiled around the pin a any desired number of times, and said spring may be made very fine or may be of any desired strength, and when attached in this manner the member (Z will be kept in aconstant state of vibration, and this will be true no matter in what position the support comprising the parts a and a be held, and a brilliant and attractive effectis produced when said vibratory member is seen through the crystal, transparent, or translucent front member 0, and the projecting points (1" of said vibratory memher are seen through the openings Win the annulus Z2 which forms a part of the casing b.
It will be apparent that the vibratory member d may be formed entirely of metal, or it may have any desired ornamentation, and the parts d" thereof may serve as attachments or means for connecting jewels with said vibratory member, and my improvement may be applied to an ordinary brooch or any kind or class of a pin and may also be applied to rings, and changes in and modifications of the construction described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a device of the class described, a frame or support, an annular or substantially annular casing connected therewith and provided with an open-work annulus having openings therein, a stationary transparent or translucent front member mounted centrally in said annulus, and a vibratory member mounted rearwardly of said front member and of said annulus and provided with parts which project into the openings in said annulus, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a device of the class described, a frame or support, a transparent or translucent front member connected therewith and supported in front thereof, and a vibratory member mounted rearwardly ofsaid front member and connected with said frame or support by means of a casing secured to the back of said vibratory member and open at the back thereof, a pin passing through said casing, and a resilient spring coiled around said pin and one end of which is secured thereto but the other end of which is passed out through the opening of said casing and secured to the frame or support, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a device of the class described, a frame or support, a transparent or translucent front member connected therewith and a vibratory member mounted rearwardly of said front member and connected with the frame or support by means of a casing secured to the back of the vibratory member and open at the back thereof, a pin secured in said casing, a loop or yoke shaped member within said casing and through which said pin passes and the sides of which are passed out through the opening in said casing and secured to the frame or support, and a resilient spring coiled in the loop or yoke shaped member and one end of which is secured to said pin and the other end ofwhich is also passed out of said casing between the sides of the loop or yoke shaped -member and secured thereto and to the frame or support, substantially as shown and described.
