Letters Patent No. 76,828, dated April 14, 1868.

TO ALL WHOM 'IT .MAY CONGERN:
Be4 it known that I, PHILIPlJ SCHREYER, of the city, county, and State of NewYork', have invented a new and improved Gas-Stove; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled inthe art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming-partei` this specification, in which Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation of my improved gas-stove, taken on the plane ofthe line a: fr, iig. 2.
Figure 2 is a plan4 or top view ofthe same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new manner of arranging the burners and the framework oi' a gas-stove, so that the operation'of all parts may be very eiiective and satisfactory. v
The invention consists, first, in making the upper parts of thc burners corrugated, or so that they project beyondl the lower round part of the pipe,- and that therefore air enters the burner directly at its junction with the pipe, besides entering the pipe through perforated passages provided for that purpose. Thereby the gas will be fairly mixed with oxygen, and will burn with a more intense heat vthan it would if it were not mixed with the air. v
The invention also consists in a new manner of constructing the frame of the device, and in so shaping the frame with polygonal sides lthat a series oi' such stoves can be placed together, to form one large heatingapparatus.
A, in the drawing, represents the frame of my improved gas-stove. The same consists of V-shaped uprights,
a a, connected at their upper ends by a polygonal ring, b, and at their angle, where they are close together, by
a, block, c, as shown in figs. l and 2. Through the block c is fitted a pipe, C, to the upper'` end ot' wl1ich the burner is secured, while its lower end connects with'a gas-pipe, B, from a suitable reservoir.
The burneris either single orbranched into two or more arms, or the pipe C may be branched, as'showm The lower part, d, of each'burner, D, is perforated, as at ff, and is simply tubular, as sh'own. Around this tube d is itted the upper enlarged part coi' the burner, -which is corrugated, or polygonal, or otherwise, sol
arranged, larger than the tube d, that an air-space is left between the outer side of d and the inner side of e;
as shown in section in iig. 1.
By this arrangement air will be conducted to the gas before it is lighted, without giving the gas any chance to escape through the air-holes. The peri'crations ff may be omitted if the spaces-between d and c are large enough. y
'E is a plato or frame, resting upon the frame A, for the' purpose of supporting the'articles to bc heated, -or the vessels-containing such articles. A'
By having the upper rings, b, ofthe frame A polygonal, and not round or oval, I am enabled to set a. uum ber of frames together lwithout loss oi' room, and forobtaining a large beating-apparatus.A The burners D,-how ever, when they are made as described, are applicable and adaptable to frames of everydescription.
Having thus described my invention, what I- claim as' new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The burner D, constructed as described, consisting of the corrugated upper tube e, fitted upon the per- 2. Making the frame of a gas-stove polygonal, so that a series of such stoves can be set close together to produce one large heating-apparatus, as set forth.
3. A gas-stove, consisting ofthe Vvshaped 4uprights a a, polygonal rim t, block c, pipe C, and burner Z e, all made and operating substantially asherein shown and described. Y
' PHILIPP SOHREYER.
