GAS HEATING ATTACHMENT.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST Konrrrsnn, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas Heating Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an attachment or device adapted to be attached to a gas fixture having a gas jet or other gas burner whereby cooking or other utensils may be supported directly over the gas jet or burner in position to be heated. Another object of the invention is to provide a gas burner adapted to be inserted in the gas jet and operated on the principle of a Bunsen burner. By using the two attachments in combination an ordinary gas fixture with jet may be utilized as a gas stove. A further object is to construct the attachments aforesaid in such a manner that they may be produced cheaply and find a wide use and to be applied to the gas jet without requiring any particular skill or special tools.
Accordingly my invention comprises the attachments constructed and arranged as hereinafter set forth and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an attachment embodying my invention, and
Fig. 2 is a side elevation partly in section of the attachment with the burner in position.
The reference numeral 1 designates a gas fixture having a gas jet 2. The attachment comprises a supporting member 3, a second supporting or stiffening member 1 and a top member 5. The members 3 and 4 are preferably alike and each consists of a rim 6 and the arms 7. The top member consists of a rim 8 for the support of cooking utensils as will be understood. 9, 9 designate rods for joining the members 3, 4 and 5 and supporting them in spaced relation as shown. The rods may be secured to the members 3 and 5 by upsetting as at 10, while the memher 4 may be soldered to the rods or the latter simply driven through the apertures provided at 11.
The arms 7 form hubs 12 which are apertured to in position over the jet as shown resting upon the joint 13 of the fixture 1. If the jet is of the tapering type, the aperture 14: in the member 3 will be enlarged to suit by reaming or otherwise.
The attachment is placed upon the fixture by pushing it down over the gas jet and rests upon the joint 13 as shown. Because of the rods 9 the top member 5 is firmly supported over the jet and tipping is prevented because of the close fit of the apertures in the hubs 12. The attachment will support any light cooking utensil placed upon the top member and the gas flame will not only heat such utensil but will also shed light for illumination.
1ere a more eflicient heating flame is desired, I may use a burner as shown in Fig. 2. The burner comprises a member forming a mixing chamber 15 having the apertures 16 where the gas is ignited. 17 designates a neck or hollow support adapted to fit inside the jet 2 and provided with a collar 18 which rests upon the hub 12. 19, 19 are air holes.
In this instance a more efiicient heating flame is obtained, the burner operating like a Bunsen burner as will be understood.
It will be noted that the attachment consists of but few parts, is easy to manufacture and use and very strong in its construction.
I claim As a new article of manufacture, a heater attachment adapted to be mounted upon a gas jet and comprising two flat symmetrical members each of which consists of a rim and radial arms joined to form an apertured hub, the apertures in said hubs being adapted to fit closely around the said gas jet to support the attachment thereon, a top member consisting of a ring of the same diameter as the rims aforesaid and upright rods for spacing the said two members vertically a distance equal to the height of the gas jet and for securing the aforesaid three members together.
