BURNER ATTACHMENT FOR GAS-JET$.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 9, 1915.
Application filed July 7, 1914. Serial No. 849,476.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OTTO W. R. ELFREIGI-I, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burner Attachments for Gas-Jets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to gas burners, particularly to an attachment for gas jets, and has for its object the provision of a simple and novel burner adapted to be attached to an ordinary illuminating gas jet whereby a cooking utensil or other vessel may be disposed thereon and heated.
An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which has all its parts formed integrally.
A further object is the provision of a burner of this character which will be simple and cheap in manufacture, efficient and durable in use and a general improvement of the art.
With these and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the novel formation to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device applied to a gas jet, Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view, and Fig. I is a vertical sectional view.
Referring more particularly to the drawing the numeral 5 designates a gas jet provided with the usual threaded nipple 6.
My novel device is adapted to be secured upon the gas jet by removing the usual burner tube threaded upon the nipple 6 and then screwing my device thereon in place of the burner tube.
My device is designated as a whole by the numeral 7 and comprises a vertically disposed tubular shank 8 threaded at its lower end as shown at 9 for engagement with the nipple 6. At a point above the screw thread ed portion 9 the shank 8 is provided with a plurality of air inlet openings 10.
The burner portion of my device comprises a central member 11 formed hollow and communicating with the bore of the tubular shank 8 and which is provided upon its upper face with a plurality of holes 12 arranged in a circle. Concentric with and spaced from the burner member 11 is a second burner member 13 formed as a hollow ring and connected with the burner member 11 by a plurality of arms 14 which are formed hollow and establish communication between the interiors of the members 11 and 13. The burner member 13 is provided upon its upper face with a plurality of holes 15. It will thus be seen that when the device is attached to the nipple 6 of a gas jet 0, and the gas is turned on the gas will pass through the tubular shank 8 drawing in with it air through the openings 10 and will pass out through the holes 12 and 15 in the burner members 11 and 13. When this gas escaping from these holes is lighted, a Bunsen flame will be produced. In order to utilize the heat thus obtained for cooking, heating water or the like, I provide upstanding arms 16 formed integrally upon the burner member 13 and carrying upon their upper ends an integrally formed annular ring 17 which is provided with inwardly extending arms 18. A vessel to be heated may be disposed upon the arms 18 if it is small, or extend across the arms 18 and the ring 17 if it is large.
In order to cheapen the construction of the device, I preferably form all the parts of the device integrally and make it preferably of cast iron.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a simple and efficient cooking burner which may be readily attached to a gas jet of ordinary construction and which is adapted to fulfil all the requirements that could be made of it.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A burner attachment for gas ets comprising a tubular shank interiorly threaded at its lower end for engagement with the threaded nipple of a gas jet and provided with a plurality of air admitting openings a burner member formed upon the upper end of said tubular shank and provided with a plurality of holes through its upper face, said burner member being hollow and i communicating with the bore of said tubular shank, a plurality of radially extending arms formed hollow and communicating with the interior of said burner member, said arms being formed integrally upon said burner member, a second burner member extending arms formed integrally upon said formed integrally upon said arms and holring. 19 low to communicate with said arms and pro- In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, vided upon its upper face With a plurality in the presence of two Witnesses.

Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents. Washington, I). C."
