TENT OEEIcE.
DAVID K. STONE, OF BLUOMl'NG-DALF, MlCHIGAN.
BADGE.
To all, Lu/tom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID K. STONE, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Bloomingdale, in the county of Van Enron and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improve'mentsin Badges; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of the present invention is to provide a badge that may be used for campaign purposes that will be ornamental and of novel construction and may be used for other purposes in which a badge of this character may be found useful.
The invention consists in a badge constructed substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front elevation of a badge constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a perspective view with the back removed to show the interior con- 'struetion, the portrait-slide being shown in an elevated or raised position in dotted lines. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the flanged end of the slide.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a suitable casing of any desirable material and of any preferred shape and provided with means for connecting it to the apparel of the wearer, a pin a being shown in the present instance, but any suitable means may be substituted for this purpose.
The casing A. is formed hollow and has slots Z) c at its upper and lower ends, respectively, and, if desired, the front of the casing may contain a portrait or suitable lettering, as found most preferable, this being left entirely to the judgment of the manufacturer, depending upon the use to which the badge is to be applied.
The casing A is formed hollow and has near its upper end a horizontal bar (Z with .its ends fastened to the side walls of the casing, as Shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, and passing Patent No. 766,913, dated August 9, 1904.
Serial No. 210,050. (No model.)
around this bar is a suitably-colored ribbon B of suflicient length to extend down below the lower end of the casing, as shown in the drawings. That end of the ribbon B lying within the casing A. is secured to the neck 0 of a portrait slide U, which slide may contain thereon any particular portrait desired, such as a political candidate when the badge is used for campaign purposes.
The lower edge of the neck 6 is bent up against the edge of the ribbon, which forms a clamping-flange c to hold the ribbon securely to the extended neck, and said neck is formed with stop-flanges f, extending out horizontally therefrom, and through the moment of the portrait-slide will be limited, the bar serving the double function of a hanger for the ribbon and a stop to limit the movement of the slide through the medium of the stop-flanges f.
Pulling down upon the ribbon B will cause the portrait-slide to be elevated to the position shown in the drawings, and by pressing down upon the slide it is returned to the easing and concealed therein.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A badge comprising a hollow easing having slots across its upper and lower end and a cross-bar near its upper end, and a portraitslide located. in the casing and having a depending neck and horizontally extending stop-flanges. operating in connection with the cross-bar to limit the upward movement of the slide, and a ribbon having one end conand over the cross-bar and extending below the casing, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereofI affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID K. STONE.
