CHECK-HOOK.
{,PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 766,352, dated August 2, 1904.
Application filed July 11, 1902.
Be it known that I, Fnnnmnck F. llonens. a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of llattlecreelein the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan. have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Check- Hooks, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to improvements in check-hooks. I
The objects of the invention are to provide an improved check-hook to which the checkrein may be quickly and easily secured and one from which it is practically impossible to disengage the check without manual manipulation.
A further object is to provide an improved check-hook which is simple and economical to manufacture and durable in use.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claim.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification. in \vhich Figure l is a plan view of a structure embodying the features of my invention. Fig. is a side elevation view. partially in section, of the structure appeariugin Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail front elevation view of the hook proper, the position assumed by the checkrein in attaching being indicated by the dotted lines.
In the drawings similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the lettered parts of thedraw ings, A represents the saddle of the back-pad of a harness. This is of the usual form.
B is a rearwardly-curved engaging hook. Arranged to the rear of and extendingforward ly above the hook ll astandard B, which terminates in a disk-like tip or head B of Serial No 115,159. (No model.)
such width as to extend laterally beyond the sides of the hook to serve as a stop for the checkrein. The standard B is arranged so as to allow the checkrein to pass between it and the tip of the hook, and the head B is supported above the same. perfect guard to prevent the accidental disengagementof the checkrein and at the same time allows the same to beattached very readily and quickly.
A threaded belt or pin 7) is provided for securing the hook in position.
I have illustrated myimproved cl1eckhook in connection with overeheck C, having the usual tip-piece (J, for the purpose of showing the relation of the parts. I desire to state, however, that it is adapted for use with other forms of checkreins and in other relations, although, it is particularly adapted for use as a check-hook.
l have illustrated and described my improved check-hook in detail in the form preferred by me on account of its convenience in use and economy of manufacture. lam aware, however, that it is capable of considerable variation in structural details withoutdeparting from my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what 1 claim as new. and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
.In a check-hook, the combination of a rearwardly-curved engaging portion B and a guard portion B having a broad disk-like head B ar ranged to the rear of and extending above said hook B and extending laterally beyond each side of said hook to serve as a stop for the checkrein, as specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my handand seal in the presence of two witnesses.
