GEORGE E. BANNER, oENE-WARK, NEW JERSEY.
Letters'Patcnt No; 76,583, datd April 14, 1867 antedated April 7, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOOR-GLAMPS.
@the rhemle referat tu ilu time tetttt' @anni nur milking part nf 113e rame.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAYl CONCERN:
Be it known lthat* I, GEORGE E. BANNER', of the city o'f Il'ewark, in the county of Esser, and lState ofiNew Jersey, have invented an Improved Floor-Clamp ;`l and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description of the same, reference being had herein to the drawings that accompany this specification, and which make part of the. same.
My improvement consists in the manner of securing the clamp to the timber or floor-beam, end in the way in which it is, with easeand facility, released therefrom and removed for another hold. l
Upon a bed-piece, A., guide-pieces, G, are secured, in which'slides the main-pressure stem, B, having onits lower end a lat transverse block or foot to press againstthe edge of the plank, and a joint and bar, C, upon its upper end. I
The joint-bar C is hinged at'its upper end to a lever, D, the lever having its Vupper' end working with a hinge-joint in the block E, which projects from the bed-piece A..
Alongside the lever D is placed a curved ratchet-bar, Fin the notches of which a projection on the side of the lever D catches to retain the pressure upon the edge of the plank while being nailed to the beam.
Uponthe back o' the bed-piece A, a, flange, M, projects, through which pass two or more screws, K, on the en ds of which screws is a plate, L, which is placed on one lside ofthe timber Vor Hoor-beam when the clamp is 1n` use.
Attached to the bed-plate A and the guide G is a. bearing,1, in which works the jaw J, that is placed on the other side of the timber, being so formed that it will enter `the wood suliciently to prevent slipping back when the lever pressure is brought to bear on` the plank. v
When the lever D is brought back, drawing the stem B, the yend of the jaw a enters an indentation, b, in the side of the main stem B, which releases the holdof thejaw upon the timber, and allows it to be moved back, but as soon as the lever is pressed downward, the jaw J, Vturning on the pinlLis forced into the side of the bea-m'by the action of the end 'a in the decreased indentation, c, in the side of B, the varying thickness o't beams and timbers being provided for in the shifting-screw plate L and theserews K.
What'I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of .the United States, is`
'.I'hejaw J, the slidingb'ar L, and screws K, in combination with the lever D, ratchet F, joint-bar C, main stem B', with its foot H, the whole being constructed and arranged to operate substantially in the manner and for the purposes specified. i
GEORGE E. BANNER.
