SKIRT AND WAIST HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 762,378, dated June 14, 1904. Application filed April 7, 1903. Serial No. 151,531. (No model.)
To all w/wm it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANZ S. BOEDEFELD, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Skirt and Waist Holders; and'I hereby d'eelare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to improvements in means for holding the skirt and waist or bodice portions of womens garments in position. Its object is to provide a simple device which may be quickly secured to or removed from the garments, which will be adjustable to the movements of the wearer, and which will not strain or tear the parts to be held together.
It consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts, which will be more fully explained hereinafter, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows the parts of my invention assembled as in position upon the wearer. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same on the line 3/ y of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a back view of one of the holders 4. Fig; 4 is a view of the blank from which the device of Fig. 3 is formed. 7
A represents a plate or strip of metal or other suitable materialcapable of bending in conformity to the waist contour and having the transverse slots 2 at its ends to receive a tape or ribbon 3,.by which the device is held in position around the waist of the wearer. The tape and plate are ordinarily concealed beneath the waist and skirt bands.
4 represents holders adapted to be secured to the inner side of the bands of the skirt and waist and to hook over the opposite edges of the plate A-that is, the holders or pins which are attached to the skirt hook over the top of the plate, while the pin or pins attached to the waist hook over the under side of the plate intermediate of the first-mentioned pins, so that skirt and waist are properly held together. These holders are of peculiar construction and are especially devised, first, to engage a garment at more than one point; second, to be quickly engaged and disengaged from a garment, and, third, to have a hook portion with a sufficient longitudinal bearing-surface on the plate to prevent twist. As shown in Fig. 4, the holders are made from a blank sheet of metal to, having an extra lateral portion 8, in
which is a longitudinal slot 5, whose sides are eoncavcd. The'opposite side of the plate is similarly concaved, as shown at 5. One end of the plate has a foldable projection 9, which serves as a hinge for the pin members 6 of the finished holder, and the opposite end is provided with foldable projections 7, from which are formed the keepers for the pinpoints. WV hen the part 8 is bent on lines m w,
bisecting slot 5, the hook member 8 of Fig. 3 is formed, leaving a suitable space 5 on each side of the holder, across which the pin members extend. The members 6 are released from their keepers by pressing them inwardly,
the spaces 5 being provided for the purpose especially of readily accommodating the fingers of the operator. The pin members are made in one piece and are both released or engaged simultaneously. The double pins give two points of support on the cloth and reduce the tendency to stretch and tear the cloth, as where only a single pin is used.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-
A blank for a garment-support consisting of a plate having a lateral extension from one side edge and having .the opposite side edge concaved, said plate and the extension thereof having an opening madein a part of each and the center of which opening is approximately in the line of the edge of the body of the plate, said extension adapted to be folded over upon the body of the plate to form a hook and the said opening of the two parts forming a concaved space centrallylocated between the ends of the plate, and said plate having one end portion provided with a foldable projection 9 and having the opposite end portion provided with separated and foldable keepers.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set'my hand.
FRANZ S. BO'EDEFELD.
