SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters 'Patent No. 761,919, dated June 7, 1904.
Application filed April 4:, 1904. Serial No. 201,375. (No model) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MAX RUBIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Morristown, Morris county, New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a new and improved clasp for use on headed studsas, for example, corset-busksfor the purpose of suspending articlesfor example, hose or garment supporters from the headed stud or for locking the closing device of which the headed stud forms a part, whichclasp is simple in construction, small, compact, cheap, reliable, and can easily be closed by moving it in one direction and opened by moving it in the reverse direction.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate like parts in all the figures, Figure 1 is a front face view of my improved clasp open. Fig. 2 is a rear face view of the same in the same position. Fig. 3 is a front face view of the same closed. Fig. 4: is a rear face view of the same in the same position. Fig. 5 is a sectional view-of the same on the line 5 5, Fig. '1.
The clasp is constructed with a main bodyplateA, having a slot B for receiving a tape C or the like and a tongue D, provided near its inner end with an aperture E, from which a slot F of less width than the aperture extends centrally toward the free end of the tongue lengthwise of the tongue and near to said free end of the tongue. A sliding latchplate Gr has its side edges bent over on the rear face of the tongue to adapt said latch to slide lengthwise on the tongue, and this latch plate is provided with an aperture H of the same size as the aperture E, and from the same a short slot K extends upward. The slotsF and K are formed on the longitudinal central lines of the tongue D and latch G and can register more or less. 7
The latch G rests on the face of the tongue, and at the bottom-of its aperture H a short lip or flange L extends into the aperture E.
When the latch G is in its highest position, the lip L rests against the top part of the edge of the aperture E and forms a stop for the latch, and when the latch G is in its low-.

When the latch Gjis in its lowest position, the apertures E and H register, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and the head of a stud M can be passed through said registering apertures. If now the entire clasp is pulled downward, the upper end of the slot K strikes the stud M, and the latch is arrested; but the tongue D continues moving downward until the lip L rests on the upper part of the edge of the aperture E, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4:- The apertures E and II are thus brought out of register, and the head of the stud M prevents withdrawal of the sa1ne-that is, removal of the clasp from the stud. If new the clasp is forced upward, the bottom of the aperture H strikes against the stud M and arrests the latch; but the tongue D can move upward until the apertures E and H register, whereupon the headed stud can be withdrawn that is, the clasp lifted off the stud. A part of the latch Gr beneath the aperture is forced inward to form a te'at O, which when the clasp is open snaps into a depression P in the tongue and when the clasp is closed snaps over the bottom part of the edge of the aperture E.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a clasp, the combination with a tongue having an aperture and a slot extending from said aperture lengthwise of the tongue, of a latch-plate mounted to slide lengthwise on the tongue and having an aperture adapted to register with the aperture in the tongue, substantially as set forth.
2. In a clasp, the combination with a tongue having an aperture and a slot extending from said aperture lengthwise of the tongue, of a latch-plate mounted to slide lengthwise on the tongue and having an aperture adapted to register with the aperture in the tongue, the latch having a lip extending from the bottom part of the edge of its aperture into the aperture in the tongue, substantially as set forth.
3. In a clasp, the combination with a tongue having an aperture and a slot extending from latch-plate having its side edges bent over the side edges of the tongue and thus mounted to slide lengthwise on the tongue and having an aperture adapted to register with the aperture in the tongue, substantially as set forth.
