Be it known that I, CHARLES J. I-IA'UCK, of ZG-Stagg street, Williamsburg, in the county of Kings, and in the State of New York, have invented a4 new and useful Improvement in Hinges for Tobacco-Boxes, Svc.; and

I do hereby declare that lthe following isaJ full, clear, and exact descriptionl thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, .in which drawing'- Figure I represents a transverse section o` this invention.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the same as attached to a'tobacco-box.

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the hinge detached, in a larger scale than the previous igures.

This invention relates tonI hinge niade'oftwo parts, one part consisting of a simple loop made of sheet metal, and provided -with a shank, which is passed through.' a mortise in the side of the tobacco box or other article towhich the hinge is to be secured, while the otherpart of the hinge consists of a piece of wire, which is passedthrough holes in` the side of the cover of the tobacco-box or other article, andnally its ends are turned down on the inside of said cover, and fastened by solder in such a manner that a strong, durable, and cheap hinge is obtained, a hinge which is much easier made than one with one or more sheet-metal loops in each part, and which is much more readily attached to a tobaeeo`-box or other article.

A lrepresents niy hinge, whicheonsists of two parts a b, while hinges of the ordinary construction are com-v posed of three parts, vis, the two-sections of theV hinge and the connecting-wire- The piu-t a of my hinge is made of a strip of sheet metal, turned Aover so es to form a loop and a shank. This shank ismade to pass through a. slot in the side of the body of'the bok or other article to which the hinge is to be attached, and then. secured by solder in the position shown in the drawing. The part b of the hinge consists of a plain piece of wire, which is passed through the loop of the part a, and then its ends are bent and passed through holes in the lid 4or lcover of the tobacco-box or other article-to which the hinge is to ,besecured; and finally, said ends are turned over on the inside, as clearly shown in fig. 2, and then fastened with solder.

By these-,means a hinge is'obtained which is very cheap. in its construction, which can be readily applied to the article on which it is Ato be used, and which is veryduiable. Y

What I claim as new, and desire-to secure by Letters Patent, is-n 'The wire, b, with its curved ends passing through holes in the riun'ofV the box or cover, and fastened thereto by solder'l in combination withthe sheet-metal loop a, having its shariks passing through the rim' of the box or cover, and fastened thereto by solder, as shown and described'. i A
