CIGARETTE-FORMER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Iatent No. 755,129, dated March 22, 1904. Application filed June 1, 1903. Serial No. 159,669. (No model.)
To adl whont it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES R. GREEN, residing at Winston-Salem, in the county of Forsyth, and JACOB A; HILL, residing at Brown Mountain, in the county of Stokes, State of North Carolina, citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette-Formers; and we do declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for making or forming cigarettes.
The object of the invention is to provide a cigarette-forming device which will be small and readily carried in the pocket.
Another object is to provide a device of this character by which a cigarette may be quickly and neatly formed and which will be simple, strong, and durable, inexpensive, and well adapted to the use for which it is designed.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described, and particularlypointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the device, showing a cigarette-paper in place to be filled. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3is a perspective view of the parts separated.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the filling tube or barrel, having a flaring or funnel-shaped upper end 2. On the lower end of the barrel 1 is arranged a removable cap 3.
A denotes a packing-rod formed on its upper end with an enlarged tapering head 5. Near, the lower outer side of the barrel 1 is formed a recess 6, and on the inner side ofthe cap 3 is formed a projection 7.
In forming a cigarette the paper wrapper a is wound around the tube or barrel 1 of the former,'with the end of .the paper projecting slightly below the end of the barrel. The edge of the paper is now sealed and the projecting end fold ed in to close the end of the tube. The cap 3 is now slipped on the end of the tube over the end of the paper wrapper. Tobacco is now placed into the funnel end of the tube .in place.

' while the tobacco is pushed from the tube into the wrapper. After the tube 1 has beenentirely withdrawn and the tobacco all transferred to the wrapper the cap 3 is removed from the wrapper and the cigarette is ready for use.
When not in use, the cap 3 is placed on the end of the barrel 1 and turned until the recess 6 and projection 7 are brought into engagement. which will frictionally hold these parts together against accidental displacement, the packing-rod is inserted in the opposite end of the barrel, and owing to the taper of the enlarged head of the rod it may be wedged into the barrel sufficiently tight to hold the same The former may now be placed in the pocket without danger of the parts becoming separated and misplaced.
From the foregoing description. taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
