Description

J. POKORNY.
(No Model.)
' CIGAR.
N0. 806,518. Patented 0013.14, 1884.
WITNESSES ATTORNEYS rrnn 'rarns ATENT tries,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 306,518, dated October 14, 1884.
Application filed March 3, 1884.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN PoKoRNY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigars, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved cigar, in which the cutting off of the tip is dispensed with, an easy draft obtained, and the nicotine prevented from passing into the mouth; and the invention consists of a cigar the tip end of which is provided with a central longitudinal perforation, which is partly filled with prepared cotton wadding, said wadding being retained by a tubular lining in sorted in said perforation, the inner slitted end of said lining being expanded so as to retain the tube in position, while the outer flanged end protects the edge of the tip.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 rep resents a""perspective view of my improved cigar. Figs. 2 and 3 are detail vertical longitudinal sections of the tip end of the same, showing the tubular lining before and after the expansion; and Figs. 4 and 5 are details of the draft-tube before and after insertion into the tip end of the cigar.
Similar letters of reference indicate the same parts throughout the several views.
A in the drawings represents a cigar the tip of which is provided with a central longitudinal perforation or draft-hole, a, of suitable length in the usual well-known manner to cigar-makers. The draft-holea is partly filled with prepared cotton wadding a or any suitable absorbent material, that is inserted and retained in the perforation a by a tubular lining, b, of sheet metal, glass, or other suit able material. The tubular lining is slitted at the inner end, so that the slitted end can be expanded by suitable means and be anchored N0 model.)
in the filler, as shown in Fig. whereby the lining is retained firmly in posi ion. An annular convex rim or flange, b, at the outer end of the lining b protects the edge of the tip and imparts a neat and finished appearance to the same. The wadding a absorbs the nicotine and other impurities which would otherwise be communicated to the saliva, and this wadding is retained by the lining in the draft-hole a of the tip. In this manner a cigar is furnished which is ready for instant use, as the cutting off of the tip is dispensed with, and which by the retention of nicotine removes a serious objection to the smoking of cigars.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A cigar having a longitudinal draft-hole in its tip, with a tubular lining inserted into said draft-hole, said lining having an annular convex flange at its outer end, substantially as set forth.
2. A cigar provided with a central longitudinal draft-hole in the tip, with a tubular lining having a slitted inner end secured to the filler, and an annular convex flange at its outer end to protect the edge of the tip, substantially as set forth.
A cigar having a longitudinal draft-hole in its tip, a tubular lining having a slitted inner end and an annular convex flange at the outer end, and a filling of suitable absorbent material retained by the lining in the draft hole, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses. v
