PATENT: OFFICE,
JOHN Es SMITH AND JAMES P; SMITH, OF HOMER, LOUTSIANA:
BED-PARTITION SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 754,353; dated March 8; i904;
Application filed June 16, 1909. Serial No. 161,701. (No model) To all whom it may concern.
Be itknow'n that we, JOHN E. SMITH and JAMEs P. SMITH, citizens of the United States, residing at Homer, in the parish of Claiborne and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Partitions, of which the following is'a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to beds; and its object is to provide adjustable means for dividing a bed into two or more parts for the purpose of separating the occupants thereof, it being especially intended for use in childrens beds, and the means used for separating the occupants also serving to retain the bedclothing in place.
Novel details of theinvention will be apparenf from the detail description hereinafter and {the appended claims when read .in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which like reference characters reier to corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a view of a bedstead having our partition applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the partition. Fig. 3' is an en- 'larged View of a runner for the partition; and
Fig. 4: is a View showing our partition as applied to another form of bedstead.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, A designates a bedstead to which is applied apartition 1. This partition comprises substantially horizontal rods 2, reaching from head-rest. Horizontally-projectingrunners4 are provided at each end of the partition, these runners preferably being extensions of the horizontal rods 2. Each runner 4 comprises arms 5, forming a substantially notch 6s The partition 1 is designed to be held in 5 place by engagement of the runners 4 with up right rods 8, fastened at the head and foot of the bedstead, the U-shaped notches 6 embracing these upright rods and permitting ready. vertical adjustment; Special upright rods may be provided for this purpose, or the partition may be applied to the vertical rods often forming a part of the head and foot portions of metal bedsteads. If desired, a set-screw 7- may be provided to pass through onset the arms 5 of each runner 4 for engagement with the upright rods and locking the partition'in' any. desired place above the mattress. 1 I
. It will readily be seen that the vertical movement allowed in the partition will permit of making the bed and the adjustment of the bedclothes, and the partition rests on the latter and serves to hold them in place while the bed is occupied.
Having thus described our invention, what 7 we claim as new, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is
1. A partition'for beds of substantially uniform width throughout the greater portion of its length and having one relatively narrow end portion overhanging a space within which the bedclothing may-be adjusted. 2. A partition for beds of substantially uniform width throughout the-greater portion of its length and having one relatively narrow 0 end portion overhanging a space within whichv thebedclothing may be adjusted, in combination with vertically-disposed supporting-rods for the head and foot of said partition, and adjustable. fastening devices carried by the 5 partition arranged to ongagesaid rods to support the partition.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.v
