UNITED STATES Patented February 16, 1904.
CHARLES ALBERT LATIONS, OF BEVERLY, MASSACHUSETTS.
susPENpERs.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 752,568, dated February 16, 1904. Application filed October 14,1903. Serial No. 177,045.` (No model.)
, To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES ALBERT `LA- TIONS, a resident of Beverly, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved suspender, the object of the invention being to provide an improved suspender in which there is easy movement of all the parts to compensate for movements of the wearers body, one
in which the shoulder-straps are maintained in proper position, and which will permit rof perfect adjustment to t the wearer.
A further object is to provide a suspender of this character which will be strong and durable to withstand the necessary wear and which will be neat and attractive in appearance as well as comfortable to the wearer.
With these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a view in elevation, illustrating my improvements.' Fig. 2 is a view in longitudinal section, taken through the center of Fig. l; and
Fig. 3 is a face view showing the buckle with the locking-liaps raised.
To strengthen the loops or aps 3, I provide them with a lining 7, of catgut, which is stitched to the back-strap 4 at the same operation of securing the loops 3 thereto, and said loops or flaps 3 are cut at an incline at opposite sides, as shown at 14, so as to reduce the width of the free ends of said loops, and thus compensate'for the bend or curvature of the strap 2 and suspender-end 6.
The buckle 5, above referred to, comprises end plates 8, connected by three rods 9, 10, and l1, respectively. The rod 9, which is the upper rod, and 'rod 11, which is the lowest rod, are in the same Vertical plane, while the intermediate rod 10 is in a plane forward or in advance of the plane of rods 9 and 1l. On rod 10 a toothed locking-iap 12 is hinged and is adapted to secure the end of the lower section of strap 4, which is passed over thelowest rod 11, and a similar locking-Hap 13 is hinged on rod 9 to lock the upper section of strap 4,
passed down between the Arods 9 and 10, as
clearly shown in Fig. 2. By so constructing the buckle the back-strap can be adjusted to any length and always maintain the buckle at the center of the strap, as both strap-sections of back-strap 4 are adjustable in the buckle, and the latter can be located wherever desired.
Slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' l. A suspender comprising shoulder-straps, a suspender-end, a back-strap consisting of two independent sections and a buckle adjustably connecting the sections of said back-strap.
2. A suspender, comprising shoulder-straps, a strap connecting the rear ends of said shoulder-straps, a suspender-end, a back-strap consisting of two independentsections, said sections having loops or aps to receive the connecting-strap and the suspenderend, and a or flaps at both ends, and made in two sections, i a buckle for adjustably connecting said strapsections, and having independent locking means for each section.
,5. A suspender comprising,shoulder-straps,
a strap connecting the ends of the shoulder- Straps, a suspender-end, a back-strap, and loops secured to the ends of the back-strap to receive the connecting-strap and suspender-end, and linings of catgut in said loops.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
