Description

E. NESBITT.
GBNTLEMAN'S BRAGES. I
APPLICATION 311,111) SEPT. 1,1908.
Patented Feb. 22, 1910.
tCiE.
EDA NESBITT, OF SWAN HILL, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA.
GENTLEMANS BRACES.
Application filed September 1, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDA NESBITT, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Swan Hill, in the county of Tatchera and State of Victoria, Commonwealth of Australia, married lady, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gentlemens Braces, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in gentlemens braces, and has been devised in order to make the same sufficiently elastic to avoid an excessive strain being applied to the band of the trousers and the buttons thereon when the wearer is in a stooping position. Furthermore, the means for effecting the above-mentioned object are so located and constructed that they enable the wearer to move and bend his body with perfect freedom, and the braces will retain their original elasticity even when subjected to lengthy wear.
Referring now to the accompanying sheet of drawings wherein the invention is clearly illustrated: Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a brace embodying the improvements. Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 are views illustrating the improvements in detail.
In these views the reference letter a designates the shoulder-straps of a pair of braces constructed in the ordinary manner, having their front ends fitted with attachment leathers Z). The rear ends of the said straps a are connected by means of a horizontal cross-strap c, and secured firmly to each of the said straps a is a short depending strap d, the lower end of which passes through a ring e on the upper end of a loop- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 451,241.
shaped wire spring 7 and is then securely attached by means of stitching or rivets to a ring 9 in the lower end of said spring.
The upper ends of short straps h are securely affixed by sewing or rivets to the upper rings 6 of the loop-springs f while their lower ends pass freely through the rings 9 and are provided with button-holes 2' which enable them to be afiixed to the trousers. The loop-springs f are arranged to project inward toward each other, and are preferably interlaced as shown in the drawings. The wire forming the springs 7 may be made of any suitable material as steel or hardened brass and of any preferred section.
That I do claim is In gentlemens braces, a pair of shoulderstraps, a connecting-strap, interlaced loopshaped springs having rings formed on their upper and lower ends, short straps depending from said shoulder-straps and having their lower ends passing through the rings formed on the upper ends of the said interlaced loop-shaped springs and then secured to the rings on the lower ends of said springs, straps secured to the upper rings of said springs and having their lower ends arranged to pass through the lower rings thereof and provided with trouser-attachment means, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
EDA NESBITT.
