lCHARLES HENRY COLE, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
DOOR STOP AND HOLDER.'
SPECIFICATION forming part of- Letters Patent No. 752,375, dated `February 16, 1904. Application filed September 21, 1903. Serial No. 174,106. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES HENRY COLE, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Baltimore city, in the State of 5 Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Stops and Holders, of which the following is a speciflcation.
My invention relates to improvements in door-stops which hold doors when open and 1o prevent closing of the door by the wind or jarring or settling of the building.
The objects of my invention are to provide a new and improved door stop and holder, also to provide an adjustable or extensible` stop I5 which could be so made of standard size and adjusted to correspond with the door-knob to prevent said knob striking or injuring the wall.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of my 2o improved door stop and holder shown as connected and holding the door open. a front view of the catch. Figs. 3 and 4 are respectively front and side elevation of a modic'ation of the catch.
As it is a well-known fact that door-knobs are used and are of dilierent sizes, it is not thought necessary to illustrate said door-knob.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the drawings, in which- 1 is the washboard of wall, to which the stop 3 is secured by the screw 2. This stop 3 may be hollow to receive the extensible and adjustable portion 6, whichv is held in the various positions by the pin 4 passing through the 35 perforation 5 in the stop and through any one Fig. 2 is of the. several perfor-ations 7 8 9 10 in the adjustable portion 6. As the outer end of this adjustable portion 6 is-a suitable head or knob 11,- which passes into the opening 15 of a suitable catch 13, which catch is in turn held by its frame 14 and the screw 18 to the door 17, 15 being the hole in the frame la through which screw 18 passes. Catch 13 is preferably made of sheet spring-steel, with a central orifice 15 and suitable' stop 16; butV it is not desired to limit myself to the particular construction shown. be provided with the usual rubber cushion 12; but it is not deemed necessary to use this cushion.
I am aware that it is common to use a doorstop and a catch on the door-stop adapted to secure a knob on the door; but this I do not claim.
What I claimas my invention is- The head or knob 11 may 1. A door-stop comprising a base and telescoping parts provided with a perforation adapted to receive a pin for securing the telescoping parts together, substantially as described.
2. In a catch, a disk having a central orice with radial slots and adapted to engage a knob, substantially as described.
Signed by Ine at Baltimore city, Maryland, this 19th day of September, A. D. 1903.
CHARLES HENRY COLE.
