PATENT OFFICE.
CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 750,656, dated January 26, 1904. Application filed June 4, 1903. Serial No. 160,035. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OWEN J. JONES, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bangor, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Olasp, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in clasps particularly designed to be used in lieu of buttons for securing suspender ends to trousers, an object being to provide a clasp of simple construction that may be quickly engaged with the waistband of trousers and as readily detached.
I will describe a clasp embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indidate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a clasp embodying my invention; and Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views thereof, showing, respectively, the clasp in closed and open position.
The frame of the clasp consists of a single length of wire bent to form a jaw member 1, opposite eyes 2, opposite eyes 3, and a loop member 4, with which the Suspender-end 5 is designed to engage. Mounted to swing relatively to the frame and coacting with the jaw member 1 is a plate-like jaw 6, this plate-like jaw being mounted to swing in the eyes 2. As a means for forcing the plate-like jaw into engagement with the goods I employ a camplate 7 The forward end of this plate is curved outward to form a finger-piece. At its other end it is provided with a curved projection 8 for engaging with the jaw-plate. This cam plate has trunnions 9 bearing in the eyes 3.
In the operation when the jaws are separated, as indicated in Fig. 3,-the material to be clasped is passed between the same, and then by swinging the cam-plate downward the plate-like jaw will be moved into tight engagement with the material.
While I have described my invention as for use in connection with suspenders for supporting trousers, it will be obvious that the clasp may be employed for supporting other garments.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A clasp comprising a frame consisting of a single length of wire bent to form a jaw member, two sets of eyes, and a loop above the eyes, a jaw-plate having trunnion-bearings in the lower eyes, and a cam-plate having trunnion-bearings in the upper eyes, the said camplate having a curved end for engaging with the jaw-plate.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OWEN J. JONES.
Witnesses:
