To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MICHAEL J. MURDooH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Revolving Canopy Attachments for Lamps and Gas-Fixtures5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to lamps and gas-fixtures, and has special reference to a revolving canopy attachment designed to be associated with the chimney or globe of a lamp or gas-burner and comprising simple and practical means for distributing the heat, smoke, and other products of combustion as they come from the flame, and thus preventing the smoking and soiling of the ceiling and obviating the employment of the ordinary types of smoke bells and canopies, which quickly become soiled.

To this end the invention contemplates an attachment which effectually and automatically distributes the smoke and other products of combustion, besides being of a separable or knockdown formation, whereby the parts of the attachment may be readily sepaing purposes or when not in use.

With these and many other objects in View, which will more readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, whichwill be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated, and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure .1 is a perspective view of a revolving canopy attachment embodying the present invention and shown applied inoperative position to the upper end of a lamp-chimney. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view ofthe same.

In carrying out the invention the automatic distribution of the heat, smoke, and other products of combustion as they rise from the chimney or globe of the burner is accomplished through the medium of a horizontally revolving or rotating fan-disk 1, sustained in its horizontal plane a distance above and in the vertical plane of the chimney or globe, so that as the heat currents strike the blades of the fan the latter is caused to revolve about its axis, and thus uniformly spread or scatter the smoke and other products of combustion.

The revolving distributer or fan-disk 1 may be of any suitable type of circular fan, but is preferably of the simple formation shown in the drawings, in which the same is illustrated as-consisting of an imperforate central body portion 2 and a continuous circular series of radial blades 3, radiating from the body portion and set at an angle or twisted to provide the fan formation.

In the present invention the fan-disk is provided at its center and under side with a bearing-hub 4:, formed therein with an opentapered bearing-socket 5, which loosely and freely takes over the conical journal 6, formed at the upper end of an upright fan-standard 7. The lower end of this fan-standard has a rivet connection 8 with an upstanding spider supporting-bracket 9. This upstanding spider supporting-bracket essentially consists of the separate crossed members 10, each having a crown-piece 11, with which the rivet connection 8 is made, and the opposite downwardly-divergent legs 12, provided at their lower extremities with the vertically-disposed retaining-hooks 13, which are adapted to engage over the top edge of the chimney or globe 14 for a lamp or gas-burner, as plainly shown in the drawings. In the preferable construction these separate bracket members 10 may be formed of sheet-metal strips readily bent to the formation described and upon which the hooks 13 are formed by rebending and a folding down of the terminals, as shown in Fig. 2.

The rivet connection 8 may be sufficiently loose to permit the crossed members to be folded in nested relation for convenience in packing, while the detachable bearing-support for the fan-disk permits the latter to be readily lifted off the supporting-standard for convenience in cleaning.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-

A revolving canopy attachment of the class described comprising a spider supportingbracket consisting of crossed members having legs provided at their lower extremities with retaining-hooks for engagement with the chimney or globe, an upright standard provided at its upper end with a journal-point and having its lower end formed into a rivet to connect the bracket members at their point of intersection, said rivet connection permitting the crossed members to be folded in nested relation one within the other, and a horizontally-revolving bladed fan-disk pro- 15 vided at its center with a hub portion having an open socket detachably engaging the point of the standard, substantially as set forth.
