SHADE-CORD HOLDER.

T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV LANGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shade-Cord Holders, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to shade-cord holders; and the purpose of the same is to provide a simple and effective device adapted to be easily and quickly applied to the'lower rod or bar of a window-shade to reliably hold a pullcord in connection with the latter and overcome the disadvantages incident to the use of the ordinary ring and screw or screw-eye commonly employed for this purpose.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a shade-cord holder embodying the features of the invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an edge elevation thereof. Figs. e and 5 are detail elevations of the front and rear members or plates looking toward the edges thereof and showing the parts carried by each. Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the improved holder. Fig. 7 is a transverse vertical section through a portion of a curtain and the improved cordholder applied thereto.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
The numerals 1 and 2 respectively designate the front and rear members or clampingplates forming the main elements of the improved holder, and, as shown, these plates have a conventional fienr-de-lis, tho ugh other shapes may be adopted at will. The members 1 and 2 will also be provided with a suitable surface ornamentation, and projecting inwardly from the upper portion of the rear member 2 are spurs 3,for a purpose which will presently appear.
Projecting rearwardly from the front member or plate 1 is a lug 4, and pivotally connected thereto is a depending spreader 5, having a forwardly-extending projection 6 with a vertically-straight free edge to engage the rear side of the member or plate 1 and an op- (N0 model.)
posite projection 7' with a straight free edge to bear against the inner side of the rear member or plate 2. The spreader 5 has a pivotpost 8 rising from the upper end thereof and engaging the lug 4, and the lower end of said spreader has an opening 9 therein, in which the upper end of a-shade-cord 10 is secured.
Each of the members or plates 1 and 2 has a pair of arms 11 extending from the inner opposing sides thereof and attached to each other by pivot-pins 12, and by this means the two plates are hinged together. The said arms 11 are located about the center of the inner opposing sides of the plate, and above the same the members or plates have a clear space between them for engagement with the lower bar orrod of a shade. The spreader is adapted to have the projections 6 and 7 thereof bear against the inner opposing sides of the members or plates below the plane of the arms 7 11, and the lower extremity of said spreader having the opening 9 therein depends or ex tends below the lower terminals of the members or plates.
In applying the improved holder the spreader 5 .is turned in such direction as to dispose the opposite sides thereof in planes parallel or approximately parallel with the inner opposing sides of the members or plates 1 and 2 to thereby permit the latter to freely move in relation to each other. The bar or rod at the lower end of the shade or any other part of the lower end of the latter device is inserted between the upper portion of the members or plates 1 and 2, and the spreader 5 is then turned to bring the projections 6 and 7 in contact with the inner opposing sides of the members or plates below the arms 11. This disposition .of the spreader forces the upper extremities of the members or plates in close contact with the bar rod, or lower portion of the shade and causes the spurs 3 to bitein to the latter, and thereby secure the holder in firm engagement with the shade.
The improved holder will be found exceptionally useful for the purpose for which it has been devised and will not become accidentally disengaged from the shade.
Another advantage of the improved device is that it can be readily removed from one shade and applied to another, and to accommodate different applications or to adapt the holder for use with diiferent kinds of shades changes in the proportions, dimensions, and minor details may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A shade-cord holder, comprising clamping members having pivoting devices, a rotatable fiat spreader depending below the pivoting devices of the members and held by one of the latter, the said spreader remaining in constant depending relation to the said pivoted devices and having lower edge projections to engage the inner opposing sides of the members and to which the cord is attached, the upper portions of the clamping members having a clear space between them for the reception of a part of a curtain.
2. A shade-cord holder, comprising a pair of clamping members pivotally connected to each other, and a rotatable spreader pivotally connected at its upper end to a part of one of the said members and depending below the means for pivotally attaching the said member, the said spreader being vertically immovable and the clamping members independent of each other, the inner opposing masses faces of the members above the pivot-attach.- ing means therefor being free for engagement with opposite portions of a curtain and the spreader provided with edge projections to bear against the inner opposing faces of the members below the pivot means for the latter and also having an opening therein to receive a cord.
3. A shade-cord holder, comprising a pair of clamping members pivotally connected to each other and one of the same having a rearwardly-projecting lug, and a spreader having its upper end pivotally attached to said lug and depending below the pivotal connecting means for the members and provided with edge projections at opposite edges to contact with the members below the pivotal connecting means for the latter, the spreader also having means for the attachmentof a shade cord thereto.
