PATENT OFFICE.
SU PPOSITORY.
- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 740,910, dated October 6, 1903. Application filed October 25, 1902. Serial No. 128.752? (No model.)
To allwhom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER H. PELoU- BET, a citizen of the United States, residing in Newark, Essex county, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and usefulImprovement in Suppositories or Rectal Plugs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates especially to devices employed for applying ointment and the like to the affected parts in piles, & c., and has for its object the provision of a suppository or rectal plug simple and inexpensive to make, easy to apply, and effective in operation.
To attain the desired end, my invention consists in a suppository or rectal plug made of wood, having a hollow perforated body, a removable cap, and an enlarged extension connected to the body, all of which will be hereinafter first fully described and then pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my suppository or rectal plug. Fig. 2 is a vertical axial sectional view thereof.
Like numerals of reference wherever they occur indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
1 is the body of the device, made of wood.
2 is a removable cap-piece, screw-threaded at 3, so as to engage a corresponding thread upon the body 1.
4 represents perforations through the walls of the body 1, communicating with a cavity 7 within said body.
8 is a constricted extension connecting the body 1 with a bulb or enlargement 5.
6 is a perforation through the enlargement 5.
The device being made of wood will readily absorb the fatty matter of the ointment employed therewith. The body being of elongated ovoid shape easily enters the rectum, and the mouth of the rectum grips the neck connecting the body 1 with the enlargement 7, said enlargement being so shaped that when fastened to a tape or the equivalent passing through the perforation therein or when the user is sitting the pressure is equal on all sides, relieving downward strain.
Before use the device is placed in heated ointment and allowed to remain until the material thereof absorbs all it will take up. iVhen cool, the cavity 7 is packed with hard ointment. The holes which communicate with the cavity permit the ointment to escape as it becomes melted by the heat of the body, and the outer surface of the device becomes covered with such ointment, keeping the affected parts lubricated, preventing said parts rubbing against each other or chafing or the formation of ulcers, &c. The cavity may be refilled with ointment as often as required.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to sesure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a suppository or rectal plug made of wood, and in which is comprised a hollow, perforated body, a removable, perforated cap, and an enlargement or bulb connected to said body, the enlargement being perforated for the reception ALEXANDER H. PELOUBET.
