Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 5, 1916.
Application filed September 12,1916. Serial No. 119,660.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that L'Enic S. SWANBTROM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new cost.
Another object of this invention is to provide screw threads upon the conical portion of the top extending from the pintle and terminating adjacent the flange upon the top, whereby the flange will grip the cord at a point where the cord leaves the threads to prevent the cord from slipping or becoming loose upon the top.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a-comp1ete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had-to the follow-.
ing description and accompanying drawing,
- in which .any suitable conical portion Figure 1 is a side elevation of a spinning top, constructed in accordance with my in- .vention, and Fig. 2 is a similar view 1llus trating a cord applied to the screw threads of the top. I
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates as an entirety, a spinning top, consisting of a conical-shaped portion 2 having securedto one end thereof in manner the usual pintle or plug 3. Formed upon the upper end of the 2 is a flange 4 having a beveled face 5.
The conical-shaped portion 2 has formed thereon screw threads 6 which extend from the pintle or plug 3 in the direction of the flange 4 and terminate adjacent thereto, whereby when acord 7 is wound upon the threads 6 from the pintle or plug 3 in the able material and preferably of wood is secured to one end of the cord 7, whereby a child or person may grip the handle end of the rod 8 after the cord 7 has been wound upon the conical portion 2 and by giving the rod 8 a whipping action, the top 1 will be spun upon the pintle or plug 3 by the action of the cord 7 being drawn from around the screw threads 6.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,
it will be noted that a spinnin top has been provided which may be efiiclently and easily operated by a child and also means being provided whereby the cord will be held from unwinding from the top previous to being spun.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made. without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A spinning top comprising a conical- 'shaped portion, a pintle secured to said conical-shaped portion, screw threads formed on the conical-shaped portion for receiving a cord, and means formed on the conical-shaped portion for cooperation with
