Description

MNITED STATES PATENT oEErcE. l
Speccaton of Letters Patent.
Patented May 22, 1906.
Application filed July 25, 1903. Serial No. 166,947.
T a/ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Beit known that I, CHARLES L. WELLS, of St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medicine-Distributers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in medicinedistributers for applying medicine to all parts of the vagina; and the object I have in view is to provide a device of this kind by means of which the medicine may be thoroughly distributed through all of the folds of the inner walls of the vagina.
The invention consists generally in the constructions and combinations hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim. l
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciiication, Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of a medicine-distributer embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, 2 represents a receptacle or bottle provided with a screw-threaded top 3 and upon this top is the threaded coupling 5. This coupling is provided with a tube 7, to which the bulb 9 is connected by a suitable flexible tube 11. The coupling has a central opening, and a tube 13 extends through this opening and nearly to the bottom of the receptacle 2. At its outer or upper end this tube yis preferably provided with a series of openings 15, communicating with the interior of the tube, throu h which the medicine may be injected on .iagonal lines and in the form of a spray.
17 represents a removable dilator that is provided with a threaded opening in its lower end, through which it is secured to the top of the coupling 5. This dilator is provided with a series of longitudinal grooves 19. (See Fig. 2.) The interior of the dilator iits quite snugly to the outer end of the tube 13, so that none of the medicine can enter the space between the tube and the dilator. This space also being filled with air prevents any material from getting into the space.
The parts 5, 13, and 17 are preferably all constructed of hard rubber.
The specific advantages of this device are found in providing the separate receptacle 2 for the medicine and in providing the removable dilator with the series of longitudinal grooves 19.
When the device is in use, the medicine is placed in the receptacle 2, and by means of the bulb 9, air being forced into this receptacle, the medicine is forced through the tube 13 and distributed against the walls of the vagina around the end of the dilator 17. The medicine follows down through i the grooves 19, and thereby is brought in contact with the walls of the vagina and enters all of the folds thereof. After a certain amount of the liquid has been forced Afrom the receptacle 2 no more liquid will enter the tube 13, and further operation of the bulb 9 causes air to be forced into the receptacle 2 and through the tube 13. This air will then pass out through the openings and down through the grooves 19 and will assist in thoroughly distributing the medicine. When it is desired, the dilator may be removed and the instrument used without it.
I claim as my invention- A medicine-distributer, having a medicine-receptacle, a compressible bulb and a coupling between the receptacle and bulb, the combination therewith of a central tube extending through the coupling into the receptacle and provided with a series of openings around its outer end, and a dilator surrounding theicentral tube with its outer end fitting approximately close to the outer end of the tube, below the openings in the tube, said dilator having longitudinal grooves on its outer surface and being separable from the coupling, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 20th day of July, 1903.
CHARLES L. WELLS.
