Description

i @with tette atut't-'firm .Letters Patent No. 73,5854, dated Lamt'gzry 28, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN TUBE-WELLS.
tithe tlgehule rfette tu in time lettets patent mh making ynttnf tigt same.
T0 WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, B; WEIRICH and H. HSHaRTLE, of'Middlebury, in the county of Elkhart, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and usefull Improvement in Well-Tubes; and we do hereby declare that the fnllowillgisafull, demand exact descriptionthereof, which will enable others'tskilled in the art tomake'and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.`
The present invention consists in a novel attachment of a screen or covering tothe perforated end of a. well-tube, for protecting such perforations from thle entrance of sand while the tube is being driven.
In the accompanying plate of drawings. vour' improvements in well-tubes are illustrated, the figure being a side elevation of well-tube, provided with a screen, according thereto.
A, in the drawings, represents a well-tube that, around one end, has a thread, a, cut in it, in conjunction with a series or" holes, b, to allow the water to pass into the tube or pipe; B, a point inserted in end of well-tube A; and C, a wire wound around the well-tube between the several threads a thereto.
By means of the construction above described, the advantages herenhefore enumerated are, as is obvious, secured.
When the well-tubevis to be used in fine quicksand, a coarse wire is placed around it, filling the screw-thread,
and allowing very fine openings between the coils ofthe wire for the passage otiwater. In coarse gravel, a ne wire is applied, leaving larger openings for th:` passage of the water.. The screw-thread also serves to keep the wire in place.
We claim as new, and'desire to secure by Letters Patent- The perforated Well-tube, provided with a. screw-thread, a, around it, to receive different-sized coiled wires,
whereby the openings 4lie/tween the coils of said Wires are regulated, adapting the tube for use in fine sandmr coarse gravel, as herein shown and described.
