UNITED STATES Patented April 19, 1904.
MONROE C. VIX, OF MILBURN, KENTUCKY.
FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 757,989, dated April 19, 1904.
Application filed June 4, 1903. Serial No. 160,056. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern." Y
Be it known that I, MONROE O. VIX, a citi- Zen of the United States, and aresident of Milburn, in the county of Carlisle and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Improved Fence-Post, of which the following is a speciiication.
My invention relates to fence-posts; and it consists, more definitely stated, of the special post, hereinafter described, having peculiar wire fastenings whereby the fence wire strands are effectively secured to the vposts by novel and improved means.
In order to enable others to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe it in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view illustrating my invention, and Fig. 2 is a detail view showing the hook device in adjusted position.
In practicing my invention I employa ilanged post A, which may have any suitable base B.
C denotes brace-wires extending from the upper end of the post to suitable ground-anchors, as shown.` It is apparent that the brace-wires C may be arranged adapted for lateral or longitudinal support to the post, as occasion may necessitate.
According to my invention L-shaped slots D are formed in the flange E. rI`he inner end of the slots D are arranged to form a rightangle pocket F, adapted for receiving the strand-wires 0i' the fence.
In connection with each L-shaped slot D in the flange E a peculiar hook device Gr is employed. It will be noticed that this hook has an upper bill H, adapted for hooking engagement with a fence-wire strand, and a lower elongated slot I, through which is passed a securing bolt or pin J.
A peculiar feature of my invention resides in fastening the hook device G below the pocket end F oi' thc slot D, as shown.
From the above description it is apparent that in using my invention a fence-wire strand is passed into the pocket F of the slot D and that when the hook device G is adjusted to the limit of the elongated slot I on 'its securing-pin J the bill H of the hook device Will pass over the strand-wire and drop to engagement therewith.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A fence-post having L shaped slots adapted to receive the fence-wire strands, and a plurality of strand-fastening devices adjustably secured to the post, one below the pocket end of each L-shaped slot, the strand-fastening devices having independent endwise movement, and adapted for hooking engagement with the fence-Wire strands, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a fence-post having L-shaped slots adapted for receiving the fence-wire strands, ot' independent hook devices pivotally and adjustably secured below the pocket end of each said L-shaped slot, and
a securing-pin, the said hook devices being formed with an elongated slot adapted for receiving its securing-pin, and an upper hookshaped bill adapted for engagement with the fence-Wire strands, substantially as described.
