`ATENT l JACOB J. PLUCKER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO CATHERINE A. PLUCKER AND HOWARD W; PL'UCKER.
SHUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 734,607, dated July 28, 1903.
Original application filed February 1l, 1903l Serial No. 142,884. Divided and this application filed April 4, 1903. Serial No. 151.080. (No model.)
T0 ctZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB J. PLUOKER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of 6820 Paschall avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Shutters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in shutters, and this application is a division of my application Serial No. 142,884afiled February ll, 1903; and the particular object thereof is to form a shutter from sheet metal which shall be strong and durable and at the same time cheap to manufactiwlre.
With 4these objects in View my invention consists in certain parts and combinations, the preferred form of which will be first described and then the invention pointed outl verse section.
l designates a blank of metal or similar material, and, as preferably shown', its edges are bent at 2 in opposite directions, so that when the shutters are mounted they will cooperatel with each other and close. more tightly. i A i Longitudinally of the blank 2 is formed" a V-shaped depression 3, forming a rib which is parallel to the aXis of the shutter, the groove extending clear to the `ends of the blank. The blank at each end is cut into the sides of the longitudinal groove, and then the sides of the blank outside of this groove are bent up to form stems 4, which are preferably and as shown square in cross-section, and these stems form the pivotal portions of the shutter. Preferably and as shown the longitudinal groove notonly serves to stiften and strengthen the shutters, but also forms two sides of the stem, as is best shown in Fig. 3. By having the groove form two sides of the stein it is very easy t0 bend the other two sides of the stem, which are formed by cutting the blank into the outer sides of the groove, as it is merely necessary to bend them over the former until they meet.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
' l. vAs a newarticle of manufacture, asheetmetal shutter provided with a rib parallel to the axis of rotation of the shutter, the shutter at each end being formed with a pivotal stem integral7 with the shutter and of which the rib forms a part.
2. As a new article of manufacture, asheetmetal shutter provided with a rib parallel to the axis of rotation of the shutter, the shutter at each end being formed with a pivotal stem square in cross-section and integral with the shutter and of which the rib forms a part.
3. Asa new article of manufacture, a sheetmetal shutter provided with a V- shaped groove parallel to the axis of rotation of the shutter, the shutter at each end being formed with a pivotal stem square in cross-section,- integral With the shutter and of which the vrib forms a part.
Signed by me at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this lst day of April, 1903.
JACOB J. APLUCKER.
