Description

" 'NITED STATES Patented J une 2, 1903.
PATENT ()FFICE.
FREDERICK II. STONEBURN, OF MANSFIELD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE CORNELL INCUBATOR MFG. 00., OF ITHACA, NEW YORK.
INCUBATOR.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent N 0. 729,695, dated June 2, 1903.
Application filed February 5, 1908. Serial No. 141,963. Ne modelii To ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK H. STONE- BURN,a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Tolland and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Incubators,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in incubators in which a thermostat is used with T0 regulating connection between thermostat and heater.
The objects of my invention are, first, to provide an incubator with no rods or other regulating devices projecting through or above its top; second, to house and inclose such devices so that they will not be accidentally or negligently disturbed or interfered with; third, to secure and maintain at the same time in the incubator and its regulation greater efficiency and security. I attain these objects by the mechanism and construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of an incubator.
casing removed. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of a part of the incubator on the line A B in Figs. 1 and 2. Fig. 4 is a detailed view in perspective of the principal features of my invention.
Similar figures refer to similar throughout the several views.
In Fig. 3 the incubator-chamber 1 is shown with thermostat 2, connecting-rod 3 extending upward through the inner wall 9 to connection with the lever-arm 4 in the walledoff chamber or pocket 6. This pocket 6 is walled oiI within the air-space 7 between the outer or top casing 8 and the inner wall or casing 9 and is preferably built so that the air-space 7 is continuous between the bottom of the pocket '6 and the wall 9. When the top casing Sis in position, the pocket 6 is without any communication with the cham- 5 her 1 or the air-space 7 except through the small hole 10, through which the connectingrod 3 passes, and this, with such rod in position, will be approximately air-tight. The leverarm 4 is pivoted, as at 11, in any appropriate manner with adjustable counterweight l2 and adjusting-nuts 13 14 on the rod 3. The
parts Fig. 2 is a top view with the outer top' thoughtless persons by putting hats or coats on them'or otherwise, and thereby destroying the automatic regulation of the temperature of the incubator-chamber, to the serious injury or entire loss of the hatch. Such danger of interference is practically eliminated by my invention, and I at the same time secure a fiat table-top for the incubator, upon which any article may be placed with no interference with the operation of the incubator.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patout, is--- 1. In an incubator a walled-off pocket or chamber separate from the egg-chamber, but within the body of the incubator, a thermostat in the egg-chamber, a pivoted lever-arm in the pocket and adjustably connected at one end with the thermostat and at the other with the damper or other heat-regulator of the heater.
2. In an incubator a walled-off pocket or chamber separate from the egg-chamber, and within the body of the incubator, a thermo stat in the egg-chamber, a pivoted lever-arm in the pocket and adjustably connected at one end with the thermostat and at the other with the damper or other heat-regulatorot the heater, and means of access to said pocket through the top or outer wall of the incubator, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK H. STONEBURN.
