JASON CRANE, OF BLOOMFIELD, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN FUR-SET BOXES.
' Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,333, dated February 6, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JASON CRANE, of Bloomfield, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have made a new and useful Improvement in Fur-Set Boxes; and I hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing which forms part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical cross-section, and Fig. 2 a horizontal section 011 the linear w of Fig. 1.
This invention is an improved box for holding a muff and the other articles which usually make a fur-set. To preserve the muff it is necessary that it have a round bend in which to lie, so as not to be flattened. Such boxes are often made with a complete cylinder used to hold the mud. This, however, in all cases is not necessary.
In patent No. 92,274, dated July 6, 1869, I have described a box for holding furs with a round or inverted arch bottom and a shelf to separate the mufi' apartment from that to contain the collar and cuffs.
My present invention resembles that described in said patent; but is so modified as to make the box both cheaper and more compact by making the whole in a single apartment.
The following description will enable any one skilled in the art to make and use my invention.
In the drawing, Arepresents a cubical box, made of paper-board or other suitable rigid material or fabric. The length should be about the length of a ladys muff, and will, therefore,
vary for difi'erentsized muffs. The depth should be from two to four inches greater than the diameter of the mufl'. In the bottom is fastened a part of a cylinder, B, which forms the bed on which the mud is to rest. Above the mufl" is a space sufficient to accommodate the collar, cufi's, and any other pieces of fur required to make up a set. The weight of the collar and cuffs is so slight that they may be placed directly upon the upper side of the muff without any injury to it. The space above the muff is adjusted so that it will contain without cramming the articles to be stored in the box. The lid 0 is fitted upon the top of the box in the usual way. To render the box moth-proof any of the usual methods may be adopted, such as putting cedar shavingsin the spaces D, as in the patent above referred to; or the bottom B may be made of paper impregnated with oil of cedar, carbolic acid, camphor, or other materials that are moth-repellent.
By the arrangement in this box every part of the space is utilized, and the furs are preserved against cramping or derangement of any kind.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
A fur-set box, composed of a body, A, of cubical form, with a cylindrical bottom, B, and clear space above the cylinder, so as to contain a furset, substantially as set forth.
WVitnesses: JASON CRANE.
