FEEDING- DEVICE.
weasel.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented an so, 1917.
Application filed March 11, 1916. Serial No. 83,624.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL L. DENNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lincoln University, in the county of Chester and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'lleeding Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accoinpanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain. improve ments in feeding devices and has relation more particularly character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with fowls, and it is an object of the invention to provide a degeneral character which prevents the fowls from throwing out the feed and which cannot be upset by tl fowl.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved feeding device whereby the feed is effectively protected against dirt or the like and whereby the device rendered sanitary.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved feeding device whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better UlldfilStOOdfiI will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in perspective of :1 feet ing device constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention: and
Fig. is a transverse vertical sectional view taken through the device as disclosed in Fig. 1.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawin gs, my improved feeding device comprises an elongated sheet of material having the longitudinalmarginal portions thereof bent upwardly to afford the base 1 and the side walls 9, said side walls 2 being arranged in upwardly converging planes and aflording the open top 3 of restricted transverse dito a device of this general ameter, said open top 3 being arranged at substantially the transverse center of the base 1.
4- denotes the end plates of the device provided with the flanges 4? whereby the same may be secured in applied position.
It is preferred that the device be formed of metal whereby it will be perceived that the upper edges of the sides 2 and the ends l will be substantially sharp so that fowls are prevented from perching thereupon. It will also be perceived that the relative inclination of the walls 2 serves to reduce to a minimum the entrance of dirt within the device and that the cross sectional form of the device substantially entirely eliminates the possibility of the device being upset.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a feeding device constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is 'l'iarticularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material. departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying. out my invention in practice.
I claim:
A. feeding trough for poultry comprising an elongated sheet of material having its longitudinal marginal portions wardly on converging planes to afford a supporting base and inwardly inclined side walls, plates for closing the space between the side walls and base at the ends thereof, the top being open and of restricted transverse width to permit dropping therein, said open top being positioned at substantially the transverse center of the base, the upper edges of the side walls being sharp.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL L. DENNEY.

bent up- It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent N 0. 1,228,301, granted May 29, 1917,
upon the application of Samuel L. Denney, of Lincoln. University, Pennsylvania, for an improvement in Feeding Devices, an error appears in the printed specification requiring correction as follows: In the claim, line 95, forthe Word permit read prevent; and that the said Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Oflico.
Signed and sealed this 14th day of August, A, D., 1917.
